Jack Eichel’s first Sabres jersey sold at auction

Buffalo Sabres rookie Jack Eichel made a strong impression in his first NHL game by scoring a highlight reel goal against the Columbus Blue Jackets back on October 8 and the jersey he wore that night sold for a whopping $39,112.00 via NHL Auctions on January 11.
The auction was for a good cause as proceeds were to benefit the Buffalo Sabres Foundation. The sweater had been worn in home games leading up to November 25 and as a special bonus, a patch signifying that it is Eichel’s first jersey was sewn inside.
By comparison, a pair of Connor McDavid‘s Edmonton Oilers jerseys worn during his first game in St. Louis earlier this season were sold by Meigray and netted $35,000.00 (second period) and $25,000.00 (third period) each. Ones worn in subsequent games were available as pre-orders for a reported $12,500.00.
