2017 Topps Garbage Pail Kids Adam-geddon Checklist Offers Little Hope for the Future

It was the best of times. It was the end of times. From the beginning, Garbage Pail Kids have been pressing the proverbial button. Go back to 1985 and even before you saw the first card, there was Adam Bomb blowing his mind. 2017 Topps Garbage Pail Kids Adam-geddon takes it to another level, imagining the end of the world from a GPK perspective.

And in case you were wondering, it’s also using the theme to get a little political.

Depending on how you prefer to collect, there are a couple of different hobby configurations. Basic 2017 Topps Garbage Pail Kids Series 1 hobby boxes don’t promise any premium inserts. Hobby Collector Edition boxes have both more inserts and one hit per box from a list that includes sketch cards, autographs, patch cards and Printing Plates. They also cost more.

Base Set

The 2017 Topps Garbage Pail Kids Series 1 base set has 180 total cards. That’s 90 different cards, each with two name variations as has been the GPK tradition from the very beginning. All have new artwork. It is broken down into several themed subsets. All are numbered separately so it’s possible there could be some confusion. The set was initially advertised as having 220 cards.

Basic hobby and retail packs each have one Puke parallel. Collector Edition packs all have a Bruised parallel. Other parallels include Spit (/99), Bloody Nose (/75), Fool’s Gold (/50) and Printing Plates. Spit and Bloody Nose are only available in Collector packs.

Expect the base set to make light of all sorts of doom and gloom scenarios and attempt to be the trading card equivalent of a Roland Emmerich disaster film.

Inserts

2017 Topps Garbage Pail Kids Adam-geddon looks to be light on inserts. Besides parallels, hobby and retail packs have randomly inserted sketch cards but don’t expect them to be easy to pull. On the Collector Edition side, there are two styles of sketch cards. Shaped Sketch Cards are die-cut. Double Artist Panoramic Sketch Cards are double the size and have artwork from two people.

Manufactured patch cards are also exclusive to the Collector Edition. The same is true for Best of the U.S. Presidential Election, which reprint select cards from the previously online-exclusives leading up to the showdown between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton.
