George Blanda Memorabilia, Awards, Championship Rings Headed to Auction
By Ryan Cracknell | Hobby Editor
Several major pieces of George Blanda memorabilia are headed to the auction block in January. Game-used pieces, championship rings and personal awards are among the items being sold by SCP Auctions.
Among the items in the George Blanda Collection are championship rings from all three of his American Football League titles. These start with a 10K gold ring from the inaugural AFL Championship in 1960 while Blanda was with the Houston Oilers. Also up for bid are rings from 1961 and 1967.
Blanda had his share of records and milestones from his long career as both a quarterback and kicker. Some of the key moments in his career are captured with game-used footballs. One such ball comes from November 20, 1948 when Blanda, a member of the Kentucky Wildcats, tied with Tennessee in a scoreless game.
A ball from October, 1961 comes signed by Blanda’s Oiler teammates. In the game it was used, Blanda threw for 215 yards and three touchdowns in a 38-7 win over Dallas.
An Oakland Raiders team-signed ball from 1969 is also available. This one comes from his record-breaking 150th consecutive point after.
Major awards are also part of the auction. These include Blanda’s 1970 AFC and 1974 NFL Man of the Year Honors.
All of the items in the George Blanda Collection come directly from his family. The items are part of SCP’s Winter Premier Auction.
