Garbage Pail Kids Flash Back Again!
By Andrew Tolentino | Assistant Editor
Despite the sardonic nature of the Garbage Pail Kids, the title to this entry does not carry the double entendre that one might expect. Instead, Topps is firing up the flux capacitor once again and taking us back to visit the paradoxically adored unlovables from the ’80s.
Loaded with classic favorites and a slew of new additions, Series 2 of the Garbage Pail Kids Flashback is sure to tickle dark humor funny bones when it hits stores in February of next year. Expanding on their standard cast of characters, Series 2 will include five never-before-published “Lost Garbage Pail Kids” and we’ll get an update in the “Where Are They Now?” subset. The GPK crew will be escorted into 2011 with the premiere of their 3-D insert cards, Adam Mania stickers, 1/1 hand-drawn sketch cards and a plethora of parallels.
In terms of breaking down the breakdown, each wrapper in every 24-pack box is stuffed with 7 Garbage Pail Kids stickers and one parallel. The unofficial Cabbage Patch Kids nemeses ship in January, just in time to spoil the candy heart dreams and boxed chocolate sweetness of February.
Am I the only one who thinks the black and yellow checkered borders ruin the appearance of the cards? It looks like a taxi cab…I also think they should bring back the original curved banner logo on the top of the sticker (circa original 9th series and prior)
Sounds like a good discussion starter, CG. GPK collectors, Go!
Kids should love them again. Hopefully it’s not priced out of kids range, because they should be the main target.
I understand adults wanting to collect the old GBK cards because they had them as a kid, but I really don’t have any interest in new GBK cards.
