First Look: 2014 Topps Chrome soccer cards
By Chris Olds | Beckett Sports Card Monthly Editor
Chrome is coming to the pitch.
Topps revealed the first glimpses at its next Major League Soccer set on Monday and it’s 2014 Topps Chrome that will arrive in August.
Each 24-pack hobby box will be packing three autographs inside when the first Chrome MLS set arrives on Aug. 20. While a set size was not announced, the base set will include MLS stars, members of the Mexican National Team as well as up-and-coming MLS prospects.
Each base card will be found with seven parallels and 1/1 printing plates. The rainbow will include standard Refractors (eight per box), Xfractors (four per), Blue (/99), Gold (/50), Red (/25), Atomic (/10) and 1/1 Superfractors to chase. Plates, Atomics and Supers will be hobby-only cards.
For the autographs, there will be five types of cards to chase beyond the standard card along with printing plates. They will include Blue (/99), Gold (/50), Red (/25), Atomic (/10) and Supers. Like the regular cards, plates, Atomics and Supers will be hobby-only finds.
There will be three types of inserts in this one — two diecut sets and one mini offering. The In-form cards will note top players and be found with signed versions limited to 25. The 1976-77 Topps Footballers Minis will be a nod to past international soccer releases from the company, while One-Two cards will pair stars on diecut cards. These two sets also will have signed versions limited to just 25 copies, while each of the sets will have five parallels and printing plates — the same rainbow as the auto and base cards.
A preliminary checklist was not released.
