One of the season’s biggest surprises finally has a baseball card.
Atlanta Braves catcher Evan Gattis appears on card No. 418 in the 2013 Topps Series 2 set that officially arrives on Wednesday, ending a cardboard drought that had the budding star in just a single minor league packed-out product. (Click here for a checklist or OPG.)
Through 53 games this season, the 26-year-old was hitting .252 with 14 home runs and 37 RBIs in just 163 at-bats. Oh, and besides his knack for clutch home runs, he’s also got one of the more eclectic nicknames in the game, El Oso Blanco.
In all, he appears on just seven cards in the Beckett database with a value of $95, excluding rarities too tough to price. He appears on a standard card in last year’s Topps Heritage Minors set as well as on a Black (/96) and 1/1 Blue parallels and printing plates.
He has not appeared in any other prospect products. His only other card currently in the database is his 2010 Danville Braves team set from Grandstand.
