Former Boston Red Sox outfielder Dom DiMaggio — a seven-time All-Star and the little brother of Yankees Hall of Famer Joe DiMaggio — died Friday at 92.

The “Little Professor” appeared on 127 baseball cards through the years — 43 of those from his playing days with the Red Sox during the 1940s and early 1950s. He finished his career with 1,680 hits and a .298 average.

While some may think that Dom DiMaggio’s cards are an inexpensive alternative to owning some of his brother Joe’s cards, they’re really not. He’s got some pricey cards of his own, despite not having Hall of Fame credentials.

His most valuable card, according to the Beckett.com database is his 1937-38 Zeenuts card (No. 69), which is valued at $750 on the high side. His 1949 Leaf card (No. 75) is a short-printed card worth approximately $600, while his 1952 National Tea Labels card (No. 6) also carries a $600 price tag.

His Rookie Card, which appears in the 1941 Play Ball set (No. 63, above) is worth $250 on the high side.

Among more current card releases, he appeared on several cards in 2008 Topps Triple Threads as well as the 2004 Greats of the Game set. Sure, not all of his cards are expensive. Then again, neither are most recent Joe DiMaggios that don’t come with an autograph attached, either.
