TRISTAR is hoping a new venture in Vegas is a jackpot.
The long-running show-promotion and autographed memorabilia company announced on Sunday that it will be opening a new retail store in Las Vegas on May 1 — the TRISTAR Sports Memorabilia Store. It will be located at the Planet Hollywood Resort and will be the largest memorabilia shop on the Strip, according to the company.
“When TRISTAR does something, we do it big and first class,” said Jeffrey Rosenberg, President and Chief Executive Officer of TRISTAR, in a prepared statement. “It will be like walking into a sports Hall of Fame, but instead of just looking, you can take pieces of the experience home with you.”

Ernie Els is one of the world’s top professional golfers, but for years and years of golf sets, no card company has been able to land “The Big Easy” to an autograph deal.
Upper Deck announced Els is going to have trading cards, including his first licensed autographs in its upcoming 2012 SP Authentic Golf in July.

The best of the best. The greatest athletes of generations are making their way into an Upper Deck set featuring men and women at the top of their games.
Upper Deck was very select in picking the athletes to appear in 2012 All-Time Great Sports Edition. Just 20 superstars made the cut.

How has the Internet changed your hobby?
It’s a bit of a loaded question because there are countless possible answers — it might be better to ask whether there are ways it hasn’t changed collecting.
Better yet, though, we figured we’d just ask you — because there just might be many different answers for many different people. Dealers might sound different than collectors. Manufacturers might have differing answers, too. You’re all out there.
For the next issue of Beckett Sports Card Monthly, we’re going to explore some of the ways that the Internet has transformed collecting, the industry, the market. For one part of the issue, we’re planning to showcase your answers on this wide-ranging topic. Leave your comments — with a name and location — below and we’ll showcase the most notable ones in the magazine.
Also, be sure to take our polls asking you about the Internet’s influence after the jump.

Why so serious?
Poking around our hockey forums yesterday afternoon, I stumbled across a thread entitled “HILARIOUS hockey cards! Post em here!” Member tha penguin opened the online floodgates and encouraged fellow collectors to join in on the fun by posting scans of their favorite funny cards with interpretive commentary.
For the most part, hobby hilarity has ensued and the collector challenge has been extended. (More details after the jump.) Read More »

We’re preparing this year’s edition of The Autograph Issue for Beckett Sports Card Monthly and want to know just one thing from you at the moment.
What’s your favorite autograph (and why)?
Maybe it’s a signed ball or a signed piece of scrap paper from a random meeting. Maybe it’s a certified autograph of a superstar — or maybe not even a sports autograph at all.
Tell us — and be sure to include your name and location, which will appear with your answer in the next issue.

Panini America‘s Americana line has been a hit-per-pack product before — but with this new line its apparent goal is to be a cut above the rest.
And that happens with a cut in every single pack.
Arriving in late-December will be 2011 Donruss Limited Cuts, a multi-sport and non-sport product that includes more than 140 deceased baseball Hall of Famers as well as notable names from politics, pop culture and other sports. All cards will be numbered to 49 or less with more than 200 cards on the checklist limited to 15 or fewer copies, according to the company.

*** NOTE *** We run Supercollector entries every month in our magazines. Send yours today!
By Chris Olds | BSCM Editor
We’re going to dedicate an upcoming issue of Beckett Sports Card Monthly to showcasing SuperCollectors — and we want to see your collections.
We’ll pick the most interesting and most outrageous collections for the magazine, but first we need to hear about your stash.
You don’t have to have the most-expensive collection on the block but it needs to be unique — downright crazy — in some way that it stands out.
Here are your instructions …
Send in an email to BeckettSuperCollector@gmail.com the following information:
1. Name, age, your email address, your location (city, state) and who/what you collect.
2. Statistics about your collection (total cards, number of 1/1s, number of autographs, number of game-used cards or items, etc.)
3. Tell us why you should be picked. Sell us on what makes your collection the best — and how/why it started.
4. Send us LINKS to images that we can examine or use with your item. (Bad images won’t help your case … and 900 MB attachments won’t either!)
5. Be patient. We have a group of baseball entries from awhile back to go through as well. We WILL be in touch if you are selected or we need more information.
6. Act fast … we want YOUR info NOW!
Above is a sample of a SuperCollector who recently appeared in the magazine. See what information he presented if you’re struggling. (Click for a closer look if you need it.)

Wondering where certain autographs have been when busting Upper Deck‘s Wide World of Sports?
Several of the autographs in the product have been revealed as short prints. Wide World of Sports features an array of talent from just about every sport imaginable with female soccer players to figure skaters to NBA stars.
Some of the top names on the short-print list are Cal Ripken Jr., MLS soccer star Tony Meola and MMA superstar Chuck Liddell.
There is no print run listed for the cards, however, just know they are a bit rare. Just one of the Ripken cards appeared on eBay recently and sold for $151.50.

Upper Deck‘s new World of Sport set offers some of the biggest names in several sports, but the two autographs up for grabs in a contest tied to the product are perhaps as big as it gets.
Tiger Woods and Michael Jordan.
The Carlsbad, Calif.-based company announced Tuesday a contest that will get five dual-signed Woods-Jordan cards into the hands of lucky collectors who send a box lid to the company along with pertinent information.
Get a look at the card — and get the details on how to enter — after the jump.
