Your Turn: What’s your favorite autograph?

By Chris Olds | Beckett Sports Card Monthly Editor

We’re preparing this year’s edition of The Autograph Issue for Beckett Sports Card Monthly and want to know just one thing from you at the moment.

What’s your favorite autograph (and why)?

Maybe it’s a signed ball or a signed piece of scrap paper from a random meeting. Maybe it’s a certified autograph of a superstar — or maybe not even a sports autograph at all.

Tell us — and be sure to include your name and location, which will appear with your answer in the next issue.

Chris Olds is the editor of Beckett Sports Card Monthly magazine. Have a comment, question or idea? Send an email to him at colds@beckett.com. Follow him on Twitter by clicking here.

Next Topps UFC product includes fistographs & more

By Chris Olds | Beckett Sports Card Monthly Editor

Collectors often say they want more in a product and in the forthcoming 2012 Topps UFC Knockout they’re going to get just that via the Fistograph.

What’s a Fistograph? It’s an over-sized box-topper that includes not only an autograph but an inked print of a fighter’s fist — you know, an impression of what makes an impression in the sport, albeit typically inside a glove.

Ten different fighters will sign and ink up for the box-toppers in the high-end hobby-exclusive product that will include a hit in every pack and two autographed Relics, two autographs and four Relics in every box. For a look at what else can be found, see a gallery of some cards in the product arriving on Jan. 25 after the jump.

Topps plans collector Q&A at The National

If you’re attending the National Sports Collectors Convention that begins next week in Chicago, then you just might have a chance to meet with the folks from Topps.

The company is planning a  Q&A session with 100 collectors next Thursday beginning at 4 p.m.  Those who want to attend need to stop by the Topps booth and reserve a seat as they will be handed out on a first-come, first-served basis.

The company also will give away prizes during the 90-minute session.

Another trading card company has unveiled its plans for promo cards at the National Sports Collectors Convention, and this time it’s Leaf with a healthy mix of big names from across several sports with a touch of entertainment, too.

First, the company will be giving away a 10-card set during the show which will include Muhammad Ali, Pete Rose, Vince Lombardi, Nolan Ryan, Cam Newton, Mark Ingram, Stewie Griffin (yep, this guy), Tom Dwan, Hulk Hogan and Jon “Bones” Jones.

Details on how to obtain the cards will be announced before the show and during the show.

See more — and see a selection of preview images — after the jump.

Are YOU a Supercollector? We want YOU in Beckett Sports Card Monthly …

Update: CLICK HERE FOR THE UPDATED STEPS ON HOW TO PREPARE YOUR SUBMISSION

*** NOTE *** We run Supercollector entries every month in our magazines. Send yours today!

By Chris Olds | BSCM Editor

We’re going to dedicate an upcoming issue of Beckett Sports Card Monthly to showcasing SuperCollectors — and we want to see your collections.

We’ll pick the most interesting and most outrageous collections for the magazine, but first we need to hear about your stash.

You don’t have to have the most-expensive collection on the block but it needs to be unique — downright crazy — in some way that it stands out.

Here are your instructions …

Send in an email to BeckettSuperCollector@gmail.com the following information:

1. Name, age, your email address, your location (city, state) and who/what you collect.

2. Statistics about your collection (total cards, number of 1/1s, number of autographs, number of game-used cards or items, etc.)

3. Tell us why you should be picked. Sell us on what makes your collection the best — and how/why it started.

4. Send us LINKS to images that we can examine or use with your item. (Bad images won’t help your case … and 900 MB attachments won’t either!)

5. Be patient. We have a group of baseball entries from awhile back to go through as well. We WILL be in touch if you are selected or we need more information.

6. Act fast … we want YOUR info NOW!

Above is a sample of a SuperCollector who recently appeared in the magazine. See what information he presented if you’re struggling. (Click for a closer look if you need it.)
