Who doesn’t love a good list? They bring together information quickly and offer up plenty of opportunities to discuss and debate. Panini American and the NFLPA have come together to launch a couple of lists of their own to count down football’s best. The NFLPA Panini Trading Card Index is a quarterly collection looking at standouts from a hobby perspective.

Rookies and veterans each have their own lists. Topping the debut indexes? Carson Wentz and Marcus Mariota.

A series of criteria are used to create the lists including major football card sales, quantity of a player’s cards being sold, collector speculation and, of course, how they’re playing.

The plan is to update the NFLPA Panini Trading Card Index a few times throughout the year. The next list is expected to release in July as teams get ready for training camp. September will encapsulate the third quarter as the football season gets underway. The last part of the year will actually have two separate releases, one in early November and in the new year to wrap up the season.

It’s a marketing scheme. They rank players to garner interest. People tend to chase the top tier of the list (usually winners – game wise or statistically), so as the list changes changes, people buy more product to chase the latest and greatest.

Or, maybe, it’s just a player ranking thing.

Panini should spend less time making up lists and more time putting out products that justify their exclusive license. I need you to convince me you guys deserve it because other companies put out far superior products year after year.

Agree, Mike – Panini needs to spend more time and effort on customer service. Theirs, as it stands today, it a complete JOKE! I’ve been trying to contact them via email, calling, even filed a BBB complaint that wasnt answered, concerning well over a year redemptions.
