Company History
In the Game, Inc. originally manufactured fully licensed hockey trading cards under the trade name of Be A Player.
The Be A Player brand of hockey cards was produced by different hockey card companies earlier in the 1990ıs. Here is how the brand name has evolved throughout the years.
The Be A Player brand featuring one autographed card in every pack made its debut in 1994-95, produced by The Upper Deck Company. This lasted for two years when in 1996-97,
a company called Pinnacle took over the brand for the next two seasons.
In 1998, Pinnacle filed for bankruptcy and the NHLPA began to search for a suitable manufacturer for the Be A Player hockey cards. Along came longtime hobbyist and entrepreneur
Dr. Brian H. Price. Dr. Price formed a new company, In the Game, Inc. to produce the Be A Player Signature Series in 1998-99. For the first time all of the superstars in the NHL
were included in the autograph set.
By 1999-2000, In The Game added a second release entitled the Be A Player Memorabilia Series, which was also accompanied, by a boxed Rookie and Traded Update set later in the year. This
marked the first time in many years that a boxed update set was produced.
All three products returned for the 2000-01 season along with another new product, the daring and innovative Be A Player Ultimate Memorabilia brand.
If there is one aspect of our products that stands out in particular, it is our ability to create innovative and spectacular memorabilia card.
Throughout the years, we have utilized memorabilia from the finest hockey players in the world, both past and present. If you are a hockey historian, youıll be very impressed with all the
cards we have created honoring hockeyıs rich heritage and players such as Maurice Richard, Gordie Howe, Jacques Plante and even Georges Vezina.
For the 2001-02 season, In the Game has once again upped the ante and will be producing six brands of hockey cards: Be A Player Signature Series, Be A Player Memorabilia Series, Be A Player
Ultimate Memorabilia, Be A Player Update, Be A Player Parkhurst, and Between the Pipes. All will prominently feature the memorabilia cards we have become known for.
