Company History
In 1987, Birmingham Barons owner Art Clarkson and general manager Don White had an idea. The duo produced a
28-card set showcasing their players. Wanting a simple name that alluded to being at the top, the set was called
Best.
So well received was this first Best set, that management from other teams around the minor league circuit stood
up and took note. In 1988, Best produced 17 team sets including the Class A San Bernardino Spirit that is known
for including the first card of Ken Griffey Jr.
Best had grown so big, that Classic purchased the company in 1991 with White coming on board at Classic Games.
By mid-summer 1995, Classic announced it was not going to continue producing Best minor league cards. Enter White,
who bought back the "Best" name and started from scratch. The result was a 133-card Best Prospects set
that was released in early 1996. In 1997, the Best brand grew to include a number of different card products. Each
card product contains various insert sets including autographs.
The company has gone by the name Team Best since 1998.
