Brady Card

By Stephen Laroche | Beckett Sports Card Monthly Editor

The hobby of collecting trading cards and memorabilia can sometimes be filled with negative experiences and emotions, but there are still plenty of collectors around who love a great story and are willing to help out others in a time of need.

In the case of 10-year-old Brady Kahle, he is learning about the positive side of the hobby early on in addition to seeing that good deeds are often rewarded. Over the past few months, he and his family have been running Cards for a Cause to help raise funds for other kids, including his best friend, who had been battling battling brain cancer.

By offering to sell his own cards to raise money, Brady made headlines all over the world and he was invited by Upper Deck to the 37th National Sports Collectors Convention in Atlantic City to set up shop in its corporate booth. Upper Deck’s Senior Marketing & Social Media Manager Chris Carlin had another surprise for him today as he was presented with a jumbo-sized copy of his very own Heroic Inspirations card.

“It was really, really, amazing,” noted Brady when contacted after the presentation. “I was surprised!”

Brady, who is a first-time visitor to the National, noted that sales were good and was surprised by the donation of a sealed case of cards. He was also invited to personally meet pro wrestling legend Ric Flair at the show, which was a major treat for the young wrestling fan. He also provided an update as to how the fundraising was going.

“Since February of this year, we have raised $10,000.00,” he said.

With his family in attendance, Brady was also up on the Mike Berkus Stage participating in a case break with Upper Deck before receiving his card.

“It was so amazing,” said Brady’s mother, Jessie. “Just so generous of them and helpful. They have really taken him under their wing and wanted to do whatever they could to help him. I’m at a loss for words right now because this experience has been incredible with their generosity to help him.”

The cards themselves should be available soon via Cards for a Cause.

“From what I understand, they are, and they’re going to be mailing them to us for him to autograph, sell, or whatever he chooses to do with them in order to help the cause,” said Jessie. “I’m pretty excited. We looked into it before and it’s an amazing campaign that they do just to recognize people, not just Brady, but just in general for the good in the world. Upper Deck is top-notch, I’d say. They’ve been so helpful and accommodating in any way they can and have really gone above and beyond.”

Beckett Media hopes to have further information about how Brady’s Heroic Inspirations cards will be distributed to pass on to collectors in the near future. For more information on Cards for a Cause, please visit them on Facebook or Twitter.
