Upper Deck Offers Connor McDavid Expo Redemption
By Stephen Laroche | Beckett Hockey Editor
The 49th Sportcard & Memorabilia Expo is just one month away, but Upper Deck has been busy solidifying their plans for the world’s biggest trade show dedicated to hockey cards and collectibles.
As part of the festivities, collectors breaking a box of certain Upper Deck releases they have purchased at the show may bring their sealed box and the voucher they receive from a Certified Diamond Dealer in order to receive a limited edition Memorable Moments promotional card of junior sensation Connor McDavid in his national team jersey. Available only on Saturday, May 2 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m., this could become a hit on the secondary market as the young star’s cards have been on fire all season.
The eligible products for the McDavid card are 2014-15 Upper Deck Series Two, 2014-15 Fleer Showcase, 2014-15 O-Pee-Chee Platinum, 2014-15 Upper Deck ICE, and 2014-15 Upper Deck Masterpieces.
What else did Upper Deck reveal about their plans for the Expo? Find out after the jump.
One of the most popular programs Upper Deck has delivered this season have been the 25th Anniversary Young Guns Tribute cards. The company utilized their enduring 1990-91 design and has created Young Guns cards for several active players and legends that have not been a part of the subset over the years. The first cards in the collection were available at the previous Expo back in November and additional cards were added through National Hockey Card Day festivities on both sides of the border.
This time, the set comes to a close with Adam Oates, Joel Ward, Mike Gartner, Brad Richards and Brad Park. In order to get two of these cards at the Upper Deck booth at any time during the show, collectors need to purchase a box of 2014-15 Fleer Ultra, 2014-15 Upper Deck Artifacts or 2014-15 Black Diamond and they will receive a voucher from the Certified Diamond dealer. However, those that bring two boxes from this group will instead receive all five cards in the set.
Upper Deck has also noted that Priority Signings will return again for this show and there will be additional details revealed about their booth in the next few weeks.
