2016 Topps Series 1 Baseball Variations Short Prints Gallery
The 2016 Topps Series 1 Baseball variations are strictly based on photo selection. RIP Sparkles. So long Stat Backs. Compared to the past couple of years, it’s all straightforward and simple. And while the card backs can be helpful to confirm your suspicions, they’re not required.
Some of the 2016 Topps Series 1 Baseball variations do have a theme. If you come across a card where the player is wearing a camo jersey, there’s a good chance it’s a variation (we haven’t had a chance to check all 350 cards yet to see if any such photos slipped into the main set).

Camo jerseys aren’t the only variations, though. Others go with an even more basic photo swap. Below is a detailed checklist of all variations as well as a detailed gallery of the short prints alongside their base card counterparts.
Much like previous years, the 2016 Topps Series 1 Baseball variations fall into two tiers. Short prints, which the camo cards fall under, are the more common. These land 1:25 hobby jumbo packs. Although not yet confirmed by Topps, it looks as though there are 25 different Camo variations.
The tougher super short prints (SSP) are 1:250 2016 Topps Series 1 Baseball hobby jumbo packs. For retail packs, it’s 1:35 for SP and 1:349 for SSP. These use different photos, ones that are often more eye-catching.
While card fronts are all that’s required to spot the variations, the codes in the fine print on the back offer confirmation:
- Base – 7075
- SP – 7123
- SSP – 7125

I had some very impressive pulls in the 2 boxes i bought, no autos though.ED
I only opened a few packs the other day but the Joaquin Benoit card shows him in a camo jersey but it’s not a short print. Why can’t Topps make it easy on all of us and just be consistent with the theme??
Toys R Us also has the usual purple variations in the $2.99 blister packs of a pack. 3 to a blister.
Yes — those can be great once supply dries up. However, they’re considered parallels like the Golds and Rainbow Foils. Here we’re focused on cards that have separate photos for the card.
Still making pearls to spur on endless spending and anxiety over the “MASTER SET” compilation. Very condescending and arrogant on their part.
Joaquin Benoit base card has him wearing a camo jersey.
Does anyone have any knowledge of the print run for the Kris Bryant Negative I do not see it listed as one of his cards Thanks For the help
Print runs were not released for the Negatives, although they fall about 4 per hobby case.
It’s disappointing to get damaged cards from the Toys R Us Purple parallels. They flop around loosely in the blister packs and almost every single one has dinged corners. Seal them inside the packs for crying out loud!
What does SSP mean? Super short print ? Special short print?
Stanton wall grab is awesome!
Pulled Salvador Perez Camo Variation from a jumbo pack but it has #152 on back NOT #50
I have seen variations of camo numbered in the 400’s – i.e. jason kipnis #458 – on eBay. Why are they not listed?
Do you have any links? I haven’t seen any. Or you can email pics to rcracknell@beckett.com and I can investigate further.
I was organizing all the cards in order of 1 to 351.
Such an exhausting job for all the 3 jumbo boxes I opened up. But then, as I was going though… found Kris Bryant SSP “in dug out”!!
This is now probably the highest valued card I have over any other relics (I only started collecting baseball cards recently).
I love these kind of surprises that topps bring in their series.
Did you guys see the Marketplace set only found in Marketplace Pizza at Walmart? 50 cards. Pretty cool. If you see them, you need to grab them. Short print and limited time run.
I have the same issue as a few others I see here X2. The Series 2016 card #163 JOAQUIN BENOIT card has 7075 common card number but is as SP cammo and should have 7123. I also have the same card in a cammo gold card with s/n 1103/2016 also a 7075 common. Help!
His regular card has him in a camo uniform. All of them are like that. It’s not a variation or short print.
I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have a Anthony Rizzo (#327) card that has no color on the front, but is normal on the back. I can’t seem to find any other card like it. Thoughts?
@Michael — It sounds like a printing error.
I have a 2016 topps jose abreu (peace sign) super short print variation card. Anybody know the value of it. Card #173c
@Tyler – The price guide can be accessed here (subscription required): https://www.beckett.com/price-guides/baseball
Any idea how many ssp # 264b Arrietta with blue jersey were printed? Googled it and EBay not 1 found
@Ron – no print runs have been announced on them.
