2016-17 Upper Deck Ceremonial Puck Drop Is a Series 1 Surprise
By Ryan Cracknell | Hobby Editor
Upper Deck Hockey is about a lot more than Young Guns and great photography. Every year, the flagship release seems to bring a new surprise. 2016-17 Upper Deck Ceremonial Puck Drop fits the bill for Series 1.
The tough short prints feature several all time legends caught on camera during a pre-game ceremony.
As one might expect by the fact that the cards are a surprise, Ceremonial Puck Drop cards were not announced in advance. The inserts weren’t on the original 2016-17 Upper Deck Series 1 checklist released by the company. As a result, the exact specifics when it comes to set size are still unknown.
Fronts carry the same general design as the 2016-17 Upper Deck Hockey base set. Each has a photo from the ceremony, most with the honoree flanked by a pair of star players. Backs go on to describe the ceremony.
According to several sellers on eBay, the cards land 1:5,000 packs. We have not yet confirmed this.
In addition to regular versions, there also appears to be Ceremonial Puck Drop Autographs. It’s not yet known if all players have signed versions or only a select number. Quantities and insertion rates are also still a mystery.
