Snoopy makes cameo on Joe Mauer’s short-printed 2014 Topps Series 2 baseball card

Snoopy and Joe Mauer on a baseball card.

Makes perfect sense, right?

Collectors tearing into packs of 2014 Topps Series 2, which officially arrived today have found a short-printed version of card No. 125 (which is actually a Series 1 card) in the packs — a card with the Minnesota Twins star sharing his card with the Peanuts icon.

Why?

PeanutsStatues

The comic strip characters were created by St. Paul native Charles M. Schulz and Snoopy will be one of 10 characters whose statues will be found around the Twin Cities host the MLB All-Star Game on July 15 at Target Field.

It’s the latest marketing campaign that has had Mickey Mouse on Topps cards back in 2010 and other city landmark statues found around the host city.

“We’ve seen apples in New York and cactuses in Arizona,” Twins President Dave St. Peter told MLB.com. “When talking to Major League Baseball about the best way for Minnesota to roll out a statue program, we very quickly settled on something we have a little history with: Peanuts characters.”

We’ll have more on the short-prints in Series 2 — Future Stars, sparkles and more — in issue No. 102 of Beckett Baseball coming soon.

I absolutely love it! Being a huge fan of the hometown Twins, as well as probably the most iconic cartoon dog ever, I need to have one of these cards!

I’d love to see Star Wars integrated cards. I wouldn’t mind seeing some Vader on my Yankee cards or storm troopers sitting in the dugout.

Jesus anybody that says lov it is an idiot seriously ! leave it for Opening day
Do we remeber POLLEY WANUTS come on
Im sooooo tired of these gimicks come on its as if we are revisting the 90’s.Topps can do better.
Can we get back to reality whats so bad for the Hobby is the liscences that are not real liscence the Players association of what ever Sport you want to include. Im sure most collectors want a product with the Player and his real uniform not Photoshop with NO LOGOS OR TEAM .
I blame the Major sports accoc for this.GREED
The influx of Leaf Panini and UD Press Pass Sage etc
are watering down the hobby IN my opinion the values should reflect this.
In this day give the best solid companies the rights to the major brands and let them INNOVATE AGAIN
let the best product stand
just saying

I think history would show that when only one company has the rights to anything, innovation suffers. I think competition spurs innovation.
