Upper Deck created shadowbox inserts in 2009 SPx Football. The cards incorporated three layers of acetate to create a 3-D look.
It has used these shadowboxes in several products incorporating autographs into the design as well. UD is bringing this element to Upper Deck Authenticated, its autographed memorabilia arm.
The new collectible pieces will measure 16-by-20 inches with a large base that it could be displayed standing up or hung on a wall. Upper Deck will continue with the 3-D look and add an autograph to the middle layer.
So far, Upper Deck previewed Wayne Gretzky and Tiger Woods versions of the memorabilia piece.
“At Upper Deck Authenticated we are always looking to bring fans innovative collectibles that stop people in their tracks and make them say, ‘Wow,’” said Gabriel Garcia, brand manager for Upper Deck Authenticated in a release. These autographed Shadow Box collectibles do exactly that and really need to be seen in person to be believed.”
Upper Deck will feature these items at the National Sports Collectors Convention in Cleveland this summer.
