Topps teases return of Stadium Club baseball cards

StadiumClub

By Chris Olds | Beckett Baseball Editor

Stadium Club will be returning.

Topps teased that fact on Thursday, showing a Members Only parallel of a Bryce Harper base card online.

Stadium Club, which was first released in two series back in 1991, hasn’t been seen in baseball since 2008 when it returned for a single season as a high-end hit-per-pack product for hobby shops and a more standard release at retail. At that time, it hadn’t been seen since 2003.

Traditionally, Stadium Club has been a brand known for showcasing photography with a full-bleed design and minimal other front features.

I think it’s awesome that Stadium Club is coming back! Always liked TSC and the unique inserts. I hope they also bring back the 1st Day Production insert! 2014 is starting to feel like my card childhood of the 90’s! Donruss and TSC are both back! Excited!

Hard to judge the product without more information. Stadium Club has always been a great-looking set with better photography (as you stated), but will this be considered a premium, or super premium brand? I’m not sure we need any more of those in this hobby. As stated, the 2008 product was a hit-per-pack hobby product that was relatively expensive. I think, as a hobby, we have enough of that type of product. I’d prefer Stadium Club to be more in-line with it’s original purpose, better quality than the flagship Topps but not insanely expensive.

Stadium Club was always one of my favorites. I may have to start collecting again.

Stadium Club used to be my favorite cards. Topps mismanaged the brand though and didn’t update it well as the hobby changed. Let’s hope they do it right and get back to the great photography and well thought out inserts to go with it.

I am glad to see it come back. I hope it goes back to its roots and does a nice set without going super expensive. I also hope that Topps doesn’t make separate retail and hobby versions again, as I HATE when card companies do that. I’m fine with retail and hobby exclusive inserts, but when they change the base cards between hobby and retail then they really hurt the set collector who buys a hobby box and then a few random packs or blasters at retail only to find out that the 2 sets are different.

Seems cool, but i’m not a fan of full image cards. looks cheap and if i wanted full imagines i would buy photos.

I love the full bleed images. My only hope is that they either go all horizontal or all vertical. I am not a fan of the the mix that has taken over base Topps

Is this just a subset or will it be a product? And when is an ETA on the product?

As long as this IS NOT an expensive pack and is $5 or less, COUNT ME IN!!!!

THAT’S what the hobby needs, not another crazy $ pack!

a long time ago, a young collector asked me why I collected cards- and he was shocked when I said the photos capture a time in your life- no set did that better then stadium club and leaf studio- I would love to have Stadium Club back-

As long as TSC IS NOT a high end product, you can count me in. All of these high end products has pushed a lot of collectors out of the hobby.

I like TSC, and I hope it is reasonably priced. I don’t need a hit per pack to enjoy a release.
