A new baseball season is officially here, though on cardboard we’ve been going for a few months now. We’ve seen the newest from Topps Heritage, Museum Collection and more from the fully licensed Topps offerings, while Panini America has been a tad quieter on the baseball card front with the just popular revival of Donruss active and plenty of teasers for its next set, Prizm, telling us that it’s on its way.

That got me thinking, though. We’re also likely to soon see teasers for the next chapter of Golden Age, the third installment of cards featuring the “nation’s greatest athletes, entertainers and newsmakers from the Golden Age of America.” It’s that added extra in there — entertainers and newsmakers — along with an autograph (or two) in every single box that’s made the brand one of my favorites the last couple of years.

That got me thinking … which five autographs would I want to see in this year’s set?

First look: 2014 Topps Inception Football

Topps’ first 2014 high-end NFL product will come out in August with 2014 Inception.

Topps will include three hits in every box with at least two autographs. The third hit will be either a Jumbo Jersey or Patch Relic Card. Each box will also include two veteran base cards and two veteran parallels.

The base set will consist of 100 NFL veterans with 10 short-print variations featuring veterans in images from their rookie season. Parallels for the base set include Green, Purple, Magenta, Red, Blue, and Framed Printing Plates.

Topps’ Spring Fever promotion begins today

Spring training is over — but Spring Fever is just getting started.

Topps‘ Spring Fever card shop promotion, that is.

The hobby shop promotion begins today, March 31, with a pack of five Spring Fever cards going to each collector who purchases 16 packs of 2014 Topps Series 1 at a participating hobby shop.

Some of the bonus packs will include certified autographs.

UD Black back as a standalone product

Black is back.

Upper Deck brought UD Black back as a standalone basketball product this season. Each box comes with two packs with three cards in each pack.

The packs contain a number of different types of autographs such as Rookie Lustrous Signatures and Arena Art Booklets.

Press Pass previews upcoming racing schedule

The Press Pass racing calendar will be smaller.

The preliminary schedule includes just six products on the upcoming calendar, putting out a racing product every other month.

The Press Pass racing schedule is as follow (subject to change):

American Thunder: May 14
Redline: July 23
Cup Chase (Showbound): Sept. 10
Press Pass 2015: Nov. 19
Total Memorabilia: Jan. 14
Legends: March 11

First look: 2013-14 Rookie Anthology Hockey cards

Updates to all of Panini’s hockey products will be out in May with 2013-14 Rookie Anthology Hockey.

The updates will find collectors with new chase elements in products such as Prizm, Crown Royale and Titanium. However, Rookie Anthology will also be the home to 2013-14 Dominion hockey cards with Rookie Autograph Patches, Peerless Patches and Rookie Ensigns.

Each box of Rookie Anthology will have 10 packs with five cards in each pack. There will be four hits in every box with at least two autographs.

Upper Deck offers incentive packs for Fleer Retro Football

Upper Deck is offering collectors an incentive to open 2013 Fleer Retro Football.

Collectors who buy three boxes of 2013 Fleer Retro through an Upper Deck Certified Diamond Dealer will be eligible to receive a free autograph bonus pack, the company announced Wednesday. Fleer Retro Football is schedule to come out April 2,

Each incentive pack contains three autographed cards from 2013 rookies that are exclusive to these packs.

Late Night host Seth Meyers has fun with trading cards

Late Night host Seth Meyers enjoyed one of his favorite hobbies on Wednesday night by opening packs of trading cards.

In one of the show’s segments, Meyers showed off packs of Clark’s Trading Cards with topics that ranged from “Silver Screen Sweeties” to “Facebook Favorites.” There were several decks showing off real celebrities such as Alex Trebek and Pat Sajak in “Hosts with the Most” and fictional characters in “Moms who Yell.”

Meyers had a little fun with trading cards, and that stick of gum that comes in every pack.

2013 National Treasures Football officially rolls out

First look: In The Game’s 2013-14 Between the Pipes

He Shoots, He Saves!

Collectors know that moniker from In The Game’s Between the Pipes products.

The next incarnation comes out April 17 with at least four hits in every box. The set dedicated to hockey goalies will come with 18 packs and nine cards in each pack.

The 2013-14 Between the Pipes base set will consist of 150 players with three subsets: Stars of the Game, CHL Prospect and Greats of the Game.

LAS VEGAS – Beckett Business Solutions and eBay opened the 2014 Las Vegas Industry Summit by showing off their newly formed partnership with a ribbon cutting ceremony.

Beckett Business Solutions is a new company to help dealers sell their inventory on eBay, collaborating in a way the online auction company hasn’t done before with sports collectibles. Beckett Business Solutions will utilize Beckett’s comprehensive database, card values and incorporate a massive image repository.

Beckett Auctions begins next month

Beckett Auctions kicks off next month with an impressive first round of items.

Highlights include UFC memorabilia, autographs from Michael Jordan and Peyton Manning, and a number of high-end sports cards including a Mike Trout autograph memorabilia card and a Damian Lillard autograph.

The auction will run April 13-April 27.

Beckett’s jump into the auction world will start with dozens of lots that include a wide variety of sports and historical items.

Wax Eye is coming out with a new trading card release poking fun at comic book super heroes.

The first series of 2014 Wax Eye Stupid Heroes Trading Cards will come out in October with 110 cards, 55 designs with A and B variants.

The set will be written and illustrated by Garbage Pail Kids and Wacky Packages artists, including Neil Camera, Brent Engstrom, Joe Simko and Jeff Zapata.

New Upper Deck Master Collection set puts together 30 great athletes

Upper Deck’s Diamond Dealer meeting revealed more about the company’s upcoming products.

Upper Deck’s Grant Sandground, director of product development, discussed the 2014-15 hockey season, upcoming basketball and a massive Master Collection set coming while at the 2014 Industry Summit.

The All-Time Great Master Collection will feature 30 great athletes. Each box will come with one autograph from all 30 athletes, a Michael Jordan multi-diamond card, hand-painted cards, metal patch cards and a dual signed card.

Another bonus item could be an autographed buyback, a championship ring, full game-worn jersey or equipment, historical sports relics or even a Michael Jordan Motorsports motorcycle (this would be a redemption).
