I’m not a Yankees fan but I am a baseball card show dealer in New York (where we have lots of Boston fans believe it or not!). This has happened before with Johnny Damon. From the New York perspective, Yankees fans will not buy Ellsbury Red Sox cards unless it’s his rookie card (even that will be a tough sell). His Yankees cards will sell extremely well once they become available in 2014 products. Boston fans won’t buy his cards as a Yankee but likely continue to buy his cards showing him on the Red Sox since he was a popular player who won two World Series with them.
