Upper Deck creates rare Precious Metal Gems for employees

By Susan Lulgjuraj | Beckett Sports Card Monthly Editor

Several collectors noticed interesting cards showing up on eBay – purple Precious Metal Gems.

Turns out these cards were made for Upper Deck employees, according to the company’s blog. These cards were given away to show appreciation to the employees.

As a thank you for all of their hard work and dedication to the company, the executive team had secretly created a special series of unique Upper Deck employee cards. Employees received a selection of these cards this week and now have the tough decision of whether to keep the cards or sell them.

Looks as though some have decided to sell these cards with several buy-it-now listings at $1,000 or more (click here to see the auctions)

These cards are individually numbered to 125.

A Tiger Woods Purple PMG is currently at $152.50 with two days left.

While Upper Deck’s blog states these cards are pink, eBay sellers have all gone with purple.

Here’s a complete list from the UD blog:
Precious Metal Gems Pink
Hulk Hogan (E-HH)
Mike Tyson (E-MT)
Oscar De La Hoya (E-OH)
Rory McIlroy (E-RM)
Tiger Woods (E-TW)

Great idea to create legitimate CASH for the guys running the Upper Deck company especially since the employees have not been given raises in 5 years. Also, it creates a great excuse for the crooks in sales to back door more cards to their chosen few. Another bad sign for Upper Deck.

I would call it “hush money”, for those things that someone may or may not have witnessed when a former President/el Presidente/Dictator/CEO/Greedy Man/etc. was in charge of everything (can you say ‘Micro Manager?’) from having a 2nd print run of the high series 1990/91 hockey {French edition}, because it was doing so well & dealers were almost ‘DEMANDING IT’ and this person in charge wanted his customers happy [because a happy customer = an open wallet/spending account/etc.]…………………..AND FROM EVERYTHING I”VE READ OR HEARD ABOUT THIS PERSON-MONEY WAS HIS BEST FRIEND.

Or it could be just the ‘crooks’ theory……what the hell do I know anyways ?!?!?! LOL

The definition of insanity……”doing the same thing over & over, and expecting different results”

Way to advance your personal vendettas guys. Very productive.

Buster Brown aka Jim Grant, owner of Peach State Distribution and Atlanta Sports Cards, its sad that you are so mad at UD since their salespeople don’t accept your bribes like the salespeople from the other companies. Enjoy your 75% allocation of Flawless. The industry appreciates your manipulation of the market.

Oh, so that’s who’s spewing the hatred. Good to know. The most annoying poster on here.

I cannot say if Buster is a good guy or not, but it bothers me that they are manufacturing money for the employees when these could have been inserted into All-Time Greats (which stunk).
