The National Sports Collectors Convention — the show of all card shows — is less than a week away and truth be told I don’t have a single, unquestioned item on my want list.
Why? Because I’ll know it when I see it — and I’ll know even more when I see the price tag. (That’s how I roll.)
You see, at The National you’ll see things you’ve seen many times — and you’ll see so much that it will numb your senses in that good way that only cardboard and collecting can. Even if your hobby is merely window-shopping, it’s without question the place to be beginning next Wednesday evening and running through Sunday. Want to see a display case full of 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle cards? It’ll likely be there. Want to see wax packs likely older than you are? Some of you will. Want to see game-used memorabilia? There will be plenty of that, too.
You’ll see stuff that you may not have imagined finding, let alone had on a want list.
You’ll see plenty at auction house booths, at the booths of trading card companies and even at the Beckett Media booth where priceless treasures are displayed, wrappers are ripped for redemptions and card-grading and scavenger hunt rewards and much more can be witnessed.
And our Question of the Moment is this … If you could find a single item or card — and only one — at The National what would it be?
Tell us in the comments below … maybe someone will help you find it or grab it for you!

Babe Ruth auto ball.
Gordie Howe autograph. I got Wayne Mario and Maurice last one I am missing of the big 3
Game used 1969 Seattle Pilots jersey. The only season of their existence before becoming the Milwaukee Brewers.
the 2012 topps chrome mike moustakas black printing plate I have the base 1/1 superfractor as well as the three other printing plates I posted a pic on your Facebook page I would give anything to have all the cards
Id LOVE.KILL.be down right OVER JOYED to find a 1955 hank aaron bowman card.
The one item that I would love to have would easily be a baseball signed by the Yankees core four of Derek Jeter, Mariano Rivera, Andy Pettitte, and Jorge Posada. Being only 20 years old, these are the guys I’ve grown up watching and who got me to love baseball. Adding a piece of Yankee history like that to my collection would be simply incredible. Something that I would have forever and would hand down to my children and then grand children and so on.
A Michael Jordan Autographed Jersey
Looking for 2005 Donruss Sandy Koufax Biography card #1. Only one I need to complete the set. Been looking
If it was an item, I’d choose a Mickey Mantle autographed Louisville Slugger baseball bat. Man, I sure hope I can own one someday!
A Hank Aaron autographed bat!
A JSA auto’d Bird/Magic/Dr. J rookie, 1981 Topps. That is #1 on my list, period. 3 of the greatest players ever on one card signed. I like this card better than the ones Upper Deck churns(ed) out every year because it was made during the fact. The UD products that have 3-4 great players sigs on one card are great but they’re after the fact. That card was made before Bird and Magic were no doubt HOFers. That’s why I think it’s special.
A nice quality Bird Johnson Irving RC would be top of my wish list. Ive wanted this card for 25 years, just never have the opportunity, or funds to nab one.
Game Used Glove – Willie Mays “The Catch”
A Mark Sanchez autographed USC Trojans mini helmet.
Autographed “Miracle on Ice” picture with Herb Brooks autograph
2006 NT Brad Smith auto’d NFL shield
That is a really tough call, as there are tons of things I would love to get but I see them occasionally at one auction house or another. The card that is #1 on my wantlist and I would love the opportunity to buy would be a 2011 Topps Allen & Ginter Red Ink Autograph of Heather Mitts.
I think the 1955 Roberto Clemente Topps rookie would be a nice addition, preferably from SGC and in middle grade.
1993 Topps Finest Promo Refractors. Have only seen one set since 1993 and it was wait out of my price range on eBay recently.
It would be a dream of mine just to attend a National. I’ve never been and would love to go
Wayne Gretzky autographed game used jersey
It would have to be a ball signed by Ozzie Smith. As a kid I loved going to Cardinals games and seeing him doing his back flips and always smiling that big smile made him my favorite player, even to this day!
1902-11 Sporting Life Cabinets William “Billy” Gilbert – New York National. Not going to happen, but hey … you asked!
Nolan Ryan, Julius Erving, something unique or just cool from either of my idols..Thank you!
A football signed by the great Dick Lebeau…..greatest defensive coordinator of our time and a great player as well.
1999 Topps or Bowman Josh Hamilton RC or a Greg Toe Nash autograph.
Any Byron Scott 1/1 or card I don’t have
I am looking for WVU Cards and Memorabilia. I would love to find something from the orangebowl when they destroyed clemson.
And would love to pick up a MJ rookie
Any Doc/Otis Crandall cards, a Michael Jordan RC (under $100), or a Hank Aaron RC (under $100).
I am with you Chris, my wish list always depends on what I see and how much it costs.
A Chris Olds FB/BB card.
1966 Topps Venezuelan Mickey Mantle, EX or better.
If I had to narrow it down to just one it would be a tiny lund press pass legends cut autograph
If cost was not a factor, I would gladly enjoy one of the autographed Mickey Mantle baseballs pictured. Unfortunately, cost is a factor, so I’ll be keeping my eye out for something a little less pricey.
300 game winner sign items
Pristine Gretzky Rookie Card
chipper jones autographed bat
1992 proline al davis certified autograph, been looking for one for a long long time
1968 Willie Horton game used Jersey
If I could find a reasonably priced psa 1 52 mantle that’s what I would want, I would love to finally own that card but the problem for me is finding it reasonably priced. I may go to the national next year but this year I am gonna watch and listen for the stories that come out of it, I wish I could go :-) but to all who get to make it, have a wonderful time!!
My ultimate find would be a 1969 Chemtoy SuperBall of Bob Griese. I’ve been on the hunt for one of those for my Griese collection for years!
