Sports fans will be seeing an influx of Cristiano Ronaldo autographs – a long awaited card.
In The Game announced the international soccer star signed for Sportkings Series F, which will come out in late July. The signatures are on-card as well.
“This is a huge signing for ITG,” said Beckett senior market analyst Brian Fleischer. “Along with Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo is considered the best soccer player in the world. Besides his ability on the field, his collectability is intensified by having played for two of the most popular clubs in the world in Manchester United and Real Madrid. That, coupled with the scarcity of his certified autograph, makes this signing a sure fire winner for ITG.”
Ronaldo’s card career is limited. He’s appeared on a couple of Panini World Cup cards and Futera Football cards. His latest cards came out in 2012 Sports Illustrated for Kids and 2012 Panini Euro Cup Stickers.
But autograph cards are scarce, according to the Beckett database.
“We currently catalog six different Ronaldo autographs with a total print run of just 270, and they regularly bring between $500-$1,000 on the secondary market,” Fleischer said. “As soccer’s popularity continues to grow in North America, hopefully this signing is a sign of great things to come for soccer collectors.”
The 28-year-old is an international soccer star, making his presence known throughout Europe and in the World Cup. He owns a number of soccer records, including the only player to have won the European Golden Shoe in two different leagues (English Premier League and Spanish La Liga), and the first top European league player to reach 40 goals in a single season in two consecutive years.
