First look: 2013 Topps Qubi baseball stampers (with checklist)

By Chris Olds | Beckett Baseball Editor

Topps is hoping this one gets baseball collectors’ stamp of approval.

The longest-running manufacturer of baseball cards introduced a new novelty item on Friday with 2013 Topps Qubi — collectable ink stampers that feature the likenesses and autographs of some of Major League Baseball’s greats.

Each pack of Qubi will include one stamper and one collector sheet. There will be 18 packs per box when they arrive on July 22.

The Qubi will include 75 different cubes to chase with 50 of those being Signature Qubi, while 15 will be Club Logo Quibi and the final 10 will be player portrtaits.

I’ll give them credit for trying something new. But who is the target audience? My daughter likes ink stamps. Is that the target?

Might be. You have to remember, Topps is also a candy and novelties company. Not everything it does is all about cards. This could do well with some out there.

New idea? Yes. Good Idea? I’m scratching my head…

I wonder how many forgers will buy these and try to pass off the items that have been stamped with the signature cubes as legit autos.

The David Wright signature on the stamp in the artwork is reversed. Oops.

Ian: Setting the stage for Series 2???

Nick: They’re going for the 89 Dale Murphy look!

David: Yep.

Joe: Not everything Topps makes has to be for the card-buying base of the population.

Is it my imagination or is Ichiro really on the checklist TWICE??! Is this how Topps can get Ichiro on their product this year since they haven’t figured out a way to get him in their card products?

Sincerely,

I’d bet these are about $3 a pack based on cost from Topps. An SRP was not announced.

JayBee: This isn’t a card product … so his lack of following through on stuff there doesn’t apply to here.

Multiple signature ones of the same player? How many signatures do they have?

Why do some players – like Harper, Howard, Ichiro – have two signature qubi’s? I have another question. I was collecting MLB stickers for my baseball sticker book and nobody sells the stickers anymore. Are you going to send more sticker packets to Target or Toy R Us ?

Thank you
