Box Busters: An educational(?) autograph mailday

YouTube Preview Image

Join Beckett Media’s Chris Olds as he checks out what he got in the mail from GibraltarTrade.com/store while exploring a perhaps-overlooked area of autograph collecting — buying via show promoters online. While it’s not uncommon, it’s one area collectors might not consider as often when seeking autographs.

What will he find inside? Watch and find out …

Great, you found $0.99 autographs like their some collector steal…. Except it’s guys like Zack Gowen…. What’s the point again when the signers work at Burger King now? Congrats I guess, you just turned your $13 into…. nothing!

Michael: Thanks for your valuable input there. While popularity of the subjects is one thing, the fact of the matter is that some may be just fine with it. Either way, it is what it is — an autographed photo for $1. I’m a collector and I didn’t have it and I got a chuckle about adding his auto to my wrestling stash for that price. (I passed on many others at that price.)

This show is awesome. It’s normally one weekend a month and they try to bring in at least one “star” but I’ve been to one that’s had 6 one day and 2 or more the next. They have former Tigers like Kirk Gibson to current ones like Max Scherzer. Sometimes competitors have shows at the same time so you can send stuff in to get signed or order a ball, photo, etc. They sent you a receipt and the auto tickets you get if you would go in person. Postage is extra but they are cheap. Last weekend was Roger Craig, former pitching coach for the 1984 Tigers. He was a former player and manager also. He played in four World Series and coached in two others. I got all kinds of things signed!

one of the best locations for autographs is to reach the stars early – get them while they are in college

most of the colleges will respond – just remember sometimes it takes awhile

about 15 years ago, I wrote a letter to Coach K(DUKE). it took more than a year, but he sent me an autographed team photo of his NCAA Championship team(Danny Ferry). since that letter, coach K normally sends one of his books to me every year or 2
