Score Hockey retail will remain a low-cost option for collectors

By Susan Lulgjuraj | Beckett Hockey Editor

The new configuration of 2013-14 Score Hockey was introduced a couple of weeks ago, but collectors wondered what would happen to retail.

Retail will remain a low-priced option for collectors.

Each retail pack will contain 12 cards and there will be 36 packs in each box. Even though packs will cost $1.99 each, collectors will still have a chance to get some hits. There will be one autograph in every retail box.

For those looking to nab Rookie Cards, this seems like a cheap way to do it. Half the packs in a retail box will have Rookie Cards of players such as Nail Yakupov, Vladimir Tarasenko and more. There are also at least five inserts in every box.

Each pack will contain a gold parallel as well.

1.99 per pack as compared to .99 before, but 12 cards per pack now as compared to 7 cards before.

Any idea what the hobby packs will run?

The hobby packs that are coming through are 50 card jumbo packs…looks like Panini are setting up Score similar to Topps jumbo baseball/football. Jumbos will have two RC per, retail will have one RC every other, so the distribution of the RCs is about the same, 1 RC per 24-25 cards released. If you are chasing just the RCs, you probably will go with retail unless the jumbo packs run < $8/pack.

But 2 autos and one jersey per hobby box–so like 10 per pack?

Also will the Score football retail be the same as hockey—12 cards for 1.99

David,

Probably right about the price point. If you’re just looking to build the set, would you want to spend the extra $25-30/box for the chance at getting an autograph or jersey that will sell at 99 cents? Maybe, maybe not…depends on the gamble in you.
