The Opening Day card that I would want to pull is the Bryce Harper photo varation with him slapping the fans hands. It is one of his most creativly photographed cards that has been made yet and because it is a SP, I don’t think I will be able to purchase one on the secondary market.

I’d like to get an El Toro (Pedro Alvarez). Nice sideways picture of him making contact with the only low and away pitch Ive seen him hit…..ever! A true moment frozen in time. Not an expensive card, but a player I root for that’s looking to hopefully bust out this year and could sure help the Pirates make it over that .500 hump. Just lay off the low & away Pedro and you could become one of baseball’s better power hitters!

I would love to pull a Phillie Phanatic autograph card….cause it might be the only time in history it would be worth it to have a guy in a big green suit sign a baseball card for you…

Posted April 3, 2013 at 7:15 pm | Permalink

A card i think that would be unique to pull is a Philly Phanatic mascot autograph card. I think any autograph of a mascot is different, and we all need to show the mascots some love!

Posted April 3, 2013 at 7:16 pm | Permalink

That Santana Blue is a sweet-looking card. I’d love to pull ANY Indians card in the blue series. You know, blue for the Tribe! Though, I suppose given their history, that “blue” should take on several meanings.

Posted April 3, 2013 at 7:20 pm | Permalink

The Oriole Bird obviously because where else can you find a card of baseball’s greatest mascot. If that doesn’t happen then I guess I would settle for a Manny Machado card.

I would love to pull the pie face Manny Machado card, so I can show my son (2 Y.O.) because he would find it hilarious!! Thanks for the contest!

I would love to pull a blue Yu Darvish card. That would be such a nice card because I PC the Rangers and also the blue would go very well with his team colors!

As a lifelong Twins fan, I would love to find a Mauer Printing Plate and if not a Mauer, a printing plate of any of the Twins. Have never had a 1/1. Wish me Luck!!!!

I would love to pull the Cesedes SP variation. Considering I have a shrine to the man, that would be an awesome addition. Unfortuantely it looks like the SP’s are going to be quite pricey! So the blue variation of him would do just fine as a close 2nd pull! (Or an auto of Stomper, if they made one! The mascot autos are a fantastic addition to the product checklist)

Alright so I would love to pull and yes I know its a little odd and different but it would be the 24 card Mascot and the 5 mascot autographs. Thats a little out of the norm for me but when else can you really get odd but cool pulls of teams mascots and their autographs. Not only that I imagine there arent to many on the production run of the auto’s so it would for sure be a rare gem in the rough. I dont think I have seen any other sport that puts their mascots on the board. Also it would be very cool to give to my kids for their PC since they are still young and just getting in to the wonderful world of collecting.

I would want to pull a Felix Hernandez 3D Stars card because:
1) I love the look of the 3D cards – they remind me of the kellogg’s 3d cards from the 1990s
2) Felix is an amazing pitcher to watch and keeps the Mariners competitive in a lot of games despite their lack of offense

Thanks for the contest

I have 2 guys I would want to pull. Nate Schierholtz and Jason Castro. In 2003 at Chabot college, I was playing football and he was playing baseball. During summer practice we stopped to watch their game and he hit a homerun. The 2nd is Jason Castro. I use to work out next to him at the gym. I finally saw him again after a couple years of him not seeing him there, I met him during the All-Star break.

For me, it’s gotta be the Fredbird autograph. The mascot autographs are so fun and odd, I don’t know if they could exist in any other mainstream product. Glad to see Topps doing creative stuff like this.

I would want to pull a Philly Phanatic! I’ve been to many baseball games, but there is really only one funny mascot and that is the Phanatic! He always has something different planned and his stuff is always up to date! As a grown man, he still finds ways to make me chuckle! He was also great on Its Always Sunny in Philadelphia with the legendary Charlie Day’s Green Man!

I’d like to see the last man standing in Miami, Giancarlo Stanton out of my Opening Day box.

I would love to pull a Darvish auto especially after his amazing performance, but I gotta stay true to Griffey Jr. Because I have been collecting him and Frank Thomas ever since their cards were relevant. Thank you for the contest!

I’d love to pull a Teixeira or Sabathia Opening Day Blue. Those cards are just gorgeous this year and I’m glad they did away with the tired blue borders from the last couple years.

Any of the variation cards would be my pick, with swisher being my pick of the bunch I just want him to have an awesome year just to slap the Yankees in the face

I have already put together the Cincinnati Reds team set in the Opening Day blue parallel, which is my favorite parallel set of the year so far. Odds are long but my dream pull for this Reds fan would be a printing plate of any of my Cincinnati Reds; however, a Todd Frazier All Star Rookie plate would stand out.

It didn’t take me long to think of the one player I would most like to pull, Ichiro Suzuki. I’ve become a huge fan of Ichiro. First, because I’ve been living in Washington state for the last 13 years and he was a favorite of the Seattle Mariners. Second, I’m originally from New York and a true Yankees fan and last season he was traded to the Yankees. Last, but certainly not least in fact probably the coolest reason, is because I was lucky enough to be present at the game the day they announced Ichiro was traded to the Yankees and they were playing each other that same night with Ichiro on his new team. So as I sat in the stadium, I watched him in the New York Yankees uniform as the Seattle fans stood and cheered for him showing a lot of love and respect for a great player. A historical day for both teams and one I will never forget!! Thank you for the opportunity to win another great product!

King Felix!! For one reason only, my grandmother is a die hard Mariners fan. She is 92 and ever since I can remember she has been watching the Mariners. Her favorite player right now would be Felix Hernandez and since she has pretty much everything and I can’t take her to a game (It’s too difficult for her to get out) It would be really Awesome to pull a signed card of her favorite player. Of course she watches the Mariners religously and even lets out a curse word or too if they are behind…lol but I think she would like it. I’m sure I could buy her one but that’s not he same as pulling the card yourself if you know what I mean!! So wish me luck….for G-ma King**that is her last name btw…lol. I had a lot of fun watching you open the box and appreciate all the cool contests! Good luck to everyone : )

I’d love to pull the Hanley Ramirez auto as it pictures him with the Dodgers and I’d love to add that to my Blue Crew PC. As long as Hanley isn’t doing the incredibly stupid “I See You” gesture. I can live without that forever and ever.

The David Wright auto and Matt Kemp Ballpark Fun cards would also be awesome pulls.

Ian Kinsler of the Texas Rangers. The reason being is my two sons are playing their first baseball seasons. My oldest son is playing coach pitch baseball for the Rangers. My youngest son is playing t-ball for the Orioles but all he cared about is that he got jersey number 5. He would go around the house saying, “I’m number 5!” So, since Kinsler plays for the Rangers and his number is 5. I thought it would be cool to pull one of his cards to show my boys. If I’m lucky enough I would pull two of his cards so I could give one Kinsler card to each one of my sons.

As an Asdrubal Cabrera collector, I would like to pull one of his cards. But alas, he was not included this year, so I suppose I would like to pull Slider. One can never have enough Slider cards.

I am a huge phillies Phan so I would love any Chase Utley card…… of course the Phillie Phanatic. I also think that you can’t go wrong with any pull because every player has a Phan.

My guy has always been Davide Robertson of the New York Yankees and formerly of the Crimson Tide. He doesn’t have that many cards so I take as many as I can get. He only has a couple of auto’s so the more D-Rob cards, the better.

I would love to pull the Mariner Moose Mascot Auto. My 7 year old loves the Mariners and even loves the Moose even more. Insomuch that he almost stalks the Moose during Mariners games then runs away and hides behind us when he comes near because my son is so shy. So to pull that Auto would be an out of body experience (I think) for him.

I’d go with a Mariano Rivera since it’s his last season and he’s arguably the best at what he does in the history of the game. A printing plate would be best case scenario more so because I used to be a pressman than the rarity in this case, but a blue would be cool as well.

I would like to pull any Bryce Harper cards, base or inserts. The kid is going to be great. I want to get as many cards of him as possible. He obviously didn’t put up the numbers that Trout did last year, but he is still young and learning Major League pitchers. Anyone who can drop out of high school at 16 to play in a College wooden bat league, and be hands down the best player, is going to be great. It is going to be a pleasure to watch him and Trout playing in the future.

Just to have a rc would be awsome to remember my first spring training with my dad. they probably will come out with one in the update series but just getting an opening day rc of him would be cool. I would like to pull a Fredbird autograph! When I was a kid going to Cardinal games, I always got excited to see Fredbird. I asked for his autograph once, and I was told that he can’t sign autographs because his costume doesn’t have thumbs (it’s almost like 3 fingers, but not quite). When I saw that mascots were signing in this product, I immediately looked at the checklist, and got SUPER excited to see Fredbird was one of the mascots that signed.

The thing I would want to find in a hobby box of Topps Opening Day would be a Yu Darvish printing plate, for two reasons. One, I love Yu Darvish and am a big Rangers fan, and two, I have always wanted to own something as fascinating and unique as a baseball card printing plate. I am a young collector who lives in a small town with no hobby stores, which means I can only buy retail packs. A hobby box, usually unaffordable for me, would be a great way to jump start my collection and help me come ever closer to my ultimate goal: completing an entire card set from packs. It would also give me the chance to own cards that I never been able to afford online, such as autographs, SPs, and of course a Yu Darvish printing plate. Thanks for the contest, Brian and Chris!
Happy Hunting!

The card I would most like to pull from the set isnt actually included. But since they have the Mascots set, I would love to see a BABE RUFF card. The canine mascot for the Birmingham Barons. Chris, you might remember them from your time in Tuscaloosa at the News. It wouldn’t even need to be an auto, just to have the card, my three year old son would go crazy to have it. We open packs every week together and he loves getting any sort of insert, so to have a local mascot on a nice product like Opening Day would be GREAT!
