To be accurate, 9 pole winners have won the DAYTONA since 1962. Jeff Gordon has won the pole (in all races) 72 times, and won the race 19 times. Richard Petty won the pole 123 times, and won the race 61 times. Jimmy Johnson, 29 poles, 12 wins. It guarantees nothing, but its better to have it than not.

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz … winning the pole in NASCAR is like leading after the first round of a PGA tournament … that individual hardly EVER goes on to win the event.

Plus, the whole Danica thing … would anyone else ever have this long of a career in both Indy Car and NASCAR with as few actual accomplishments? Nope.
