Panini’s Rookie of the Week set to appear in Contenders retail

Panini America picked a rookie of the week throughout the NFL season, featuring them on cards in the virtual world.

One week, the top rookies would be showcased on the National Treasures design, the next they would be on a Score design. Panini is now bringing those cards into the physical realm.

The cards will be inserted into the retail version of 2012 Contenders, exclusively at Target. The product is expected to come out toward the end of February in retail outlets.

The 17-card set highlights the weekly winners of players such as Robert Griffin III, Andrew Luck and Alfred Morris.

Panini also included 2012 Prizm Football Red Prizm Die-Cuts of the five Pepsi Max Rookie of the Year finalists: Luck, RG3, Morris, Russell Wilson and Doug Martin. These examples will be limited to fewer than 35 copies.

Way to go Panini S#!* on the card shops as always. After were all gone maby you should say S#!* on Wal-Mart & Target.

Card shops get more than their fair share of exclusive content – and exclusive sets. Trading cards were created as a means to spur sales of retail products of various kinds. “Hobby” issues were a creation of the 1980s. I, for one, would love to see trading cards return in force to their retail roots and make $100+ packs (or even, for that matter, $5+ packs) a thing of the past.

Not that I’m a big fan of “big box” stores in general, but I’d love to see packs of Topps products in my local neighborhood drug store again.

I too like having a local card shop but the reality is with the intermnet and Card comapnies selling their on (retail-TOPPS) product s this isn’t so bad.
Let me give you the lowdown in my hometown Roanoke va) 1 card shop Big’t's doesn’t want to sell by pack on most products selles to a lot of dealers and Ebay.Not always very personable everything isn’t priced so it’s always annoying to have to keep asking what’s the proce on this or that.
So if that’s the option -give me better options in retail. All have their place and thats just the way it is today I personally would love to have my own LCS. fact is I know it’s hard to keep the bottome line and all these so called free topps and Panini promotions do cost the LCS.. I just know I appreciate both ends of the hobby

Yeah, hobby has nothing to complain about with guaranteed hits, etc. It’s cool they throw retail a bone every so often.
