The day finally came for Mike Eruzione. Plenty of sports fans talked about the auction of his hockey collection. It contained memorabilia from the 1980 Olympics including the Miracle on Ice game.
Eruzione’s items sold through Heritage Auctions on Saturday night.
The big seller was his Team USA jersey worn in the 1980 Olympic game in which the Americans defeated the USSR 4-3 in the medal round, dubbed the “Miracle on Ice.”
That jersey sold for $657,250, including a buyer’s premium – but it didn’t get the $1 million many had hoped.
However, six items sold for $1.3 million.
Eruzione’s jersey from the gold medal game fetched $286,600 and the stick he used to score the winning goal against the USSR sold for $262,900.
