Turkey Red is making a comeback.

Topps‘ online-only offerings at will continue in 2013, the company announced Tuesday as Turkey Red will be the latest brand to be sold online direct to the public.

This follows in the footsteps of the Topps Mini and Heritage High Number releases that were only sold online last year and a glossy version of the Allen & Ginter set the previous year.

“[It] is scheduled to go live in mid-February,” said Topps representative Mike Jaspersen, who promised to have more details on the product soon.

Turkey Red was a regular product for Topps from 2005 to 2007 before becoming simply an insert set in the company’s 2009 and 2010 flagship releases. They were based on cards of the same name from the early 1900s.

While I don’t mind an online exclusive once and awhile, Mini and High Number were fantastic, I hope this doesn’t expand much further. It feels like an “anti-local card shop” strategy. Online exclusives should be rare and so far they have been; but as we’ve seen in the past, when something sells, companies rarely show restraint. Here’s hopin’.

The box art says 11 baseball cards, not 11 per pack and I don’t see a number of packs listed anywhere on the box. Can we assume this will be a high-end, vintage look set?

Assume nothing until it’s announced.

why does topps continue to try to make turkey red relevant ?- it was good for like a year
guessing in 2014 will be another round of t206
followed by national chicle

they should try to create brand new product and issue them as test products via the internet …if they sell well and there is a huge demand it is for the hobby stores the next year
if it bombs back to the drawing board

I think they missed a chance to go with the mini theme with mini football this year. I loved the mini baseball. Also disappointed in that I did not receive all of the Golden Giveaway $10 off online codes I should’ve gotten.

I’d be happy with 11 cabinet cards. I would love to see a set of those!

Glad they’re bringing Turkey Red back, mad that it’s exclusive to their site- Can you say expensive?
