Free Price Wednesday: 2012-13 Panini Prizm Basketball parallels

By Susan Lulgjuraj | Beckett Sports Card Monthly Editor

Collectors love colored parallels. Gold and Red spur tingly feelings with baseball and football collectors. Yet, for basketball collectors, green gets them going.

The latest example of this is from 2012-13 Panini Prizm basketball. The green parallels are retail-only exclusives, but turned into some highly collectible cards. Ten cards from Prizm have green parallels valued at $100 or more.

The list starts with Damian Lillard ($350) and includes players such as LeBron James ($125), Kevin Durant ($125) and Kobe Bryant ($100).

Even some of the lower end cards book at around $20-$15, which is not bad for a retail pack of cards. So how hot are the Prizms Green?

Of the parallels in Prizm, green is selling well. However, the gold cards are not to be overlooked. While pricing is not available for these cards due o scarcity, a trip the completed section of eBay should tell you all you need to know about these cards.

Recent eBay sales
Lebron James Gold USA basketball /10 – $2,495
Kyrie Irving Gold /10 – $3,600
Damian Lillard Gold /10 – $2,499
Anthony Davis USA basketball /10 – $1,400
Kobe Bryat Gold /10 – $2,300

Hello Susan,
I was wondering if Beckett will price the gold parallels in future issues or will they always be labeled “unpriced due to scarcity”? Im coming back from a 7+ year stint from collecting and have never seen that before. I was lucky to pull the 1/10 Gold Kobe Finalist (@BGS now) and bought the latest issue, MJ Rare Ink, to no avail. Are certain sets more valuable than others? When it comes to the gold prizms, it seems USA, FINALIST/MVP, DB are sought after on Ebay, respectively.
Also, i saw no mention of the green parallels either and was wondering what the aforementioned pricing was based on.
Thank you in advance for your attention.
Truly,
Serj

Hey Serj,

The gold parallels won’t be priced. Anything that has lower print run of 15 or less won’t be priced due to scarcity.

Green prizms are priced in the Online Price Guide. As far as which gold are better, I’m not sure. I don’t cover basketball cards (hockey and football are my sports), but I think the gold are the same for the right players. So any gold Kobe card is going to be good.

Chris Olds covers basketball.
