6 mins! #topps2013
How do tou get a free box of cards? You are just giving them out?
I can’t get the google page to work (freezes up when I want to leave a comment). Is there more than one style of jersey type cards in this year’s series one?
So, can you do anything for “smucks” like me that can’t get the google page to work, when it comes to your give-aways?
Are there any Miguel Cabrera triple crown cards???
Gotcha on at Google+ but the chat feature is quite confusing. What chat are you monitoring there?
This is pretty cool.
how do you get a free box?
Shout out to Chris & Susan. This is great.
You could also add Jurickson Profar, Mike Olt, and Darin Ruf as potentially solid rookies. It’s actually a pretty good group for the first set of the year. Cool ideas guys
how many different parallels are there?
do you know what the wrapper redemption is about
Is there a josh reddick sp? I
Just wanted to be in the running for any give aways.
Hello! Joining the chat a little late from the East Coast. Which rookies in this set (Series 1) are going to be the hottest hits for you? I’m assuming Bundy and Profar top the list. I pulled a Bundy last night.
We’ll be giving away boxes in the magazine/site as well
we’ve been mostly monitoring google+ chat and twitter
Too many idiots whining about giveaways. How about you contribute something to the discussion first?
And also, stop asking simple questions in the chat like “how does the wrapper redemption work?” when there is a big post right here on the blog giving you all the available info.
Ok, so even though I can watch, there is no way for me to send messages (either at youtube or google). So, how do we sign up for the give-away stuff? This has been great to watch, thanks for this!!!!
Hey what’s up.
How do you sign up for giveaways
so i answered you contest about albert belle before you answered a winner over on the google plus page. since thats down, i answered at 3:46. but didnt win.
Want to go over how The Chase works this year? Thanks!
Who are the top rookies to collect?
Can you please run down the odds of parrallels..etc?
Got in a little late…taking care of Grand Baby…will you recap the inserts?
Can I please be the first female to get a box?
What was your best pull today, Chris?
Saw the first box break but had to be an adult and actually get work done so I missed the rest LOL! How can we win a box Chris?
Watched most of it. Sucks that the first hit was probably the best one though.
Amazing. I am super stoked for Beckett and what these live box breaks are looking like. Taking social media + baseball cards to the next level…. are we going to see more social media integration? I’ve got a ton of ideas… please shoot me an e-mail I’d love to help
Looks like a great product! Hope I can get my hands on a box!
Solid, Mr. Olds. Very solid. When is Rippin’ Retail?
I really enjoyed watching the show..Learned about the number 7 card, short prints, Susan’s hate for reporters talking about peds and sine other awesome things..Thanks again fir the show and I look forward to the next one
Awesome product! Love the vid break Chris thanks!
Very nice product, but the manufactured relic cards are not my favorite things in the world. I mean come on who wants a fake Roberto Clemente Pin? Oh yeah, I have one.
Very cool break format! Hate that I missed the live version :(
Glad to see another company using Google+ Hangouts. Hope I can join next time! Nice work. Will you be allowing users to join in on the next hangout?
i love this years set. the inserts a a ton better than they have been the last few years. the minis are awesome.
I loved this idea, hopefully do some more live ones in the future. Cant wait to get my Topps now!
Very cool format, Chris. I hope to be able to participate in a live one in the future!
Thanks for sharing!
Great job with the live show today! I watched beginning to end and it got me through a boring day of work! Looking forward to the next one!
I know a lot of people really dig the mini cards, but I say enough already! Other than that, looks really good this year.
It’s another solid Topps effort, they are the flagship. Honestly though, I miss the old card stock of when I was a kid. That’s why Topps Heritage is the product I’ll be saving up for, and that I’m looking forward to having you guys break. I’ve seen Chris in packbusting videos before, it was fun to see Susan Lulgjuraj (spelled it right that time?) – it’s great to have women in the hobby as well. Would you ever consider having a kid come in and help with the box breaking? I miss having kids in the hobby, and perhaps having a youngster hanging out with you and breaking packs and being excited would appeal to that demographic. Great effort by you two, it was fun spending the afternoon “hanging out”
despite the technical glitches this was the best box busters to date. i know there were problems on the google plus site (thats where i was asking ???) and the site actually went down but i hope that doesnt stop you from doing another live busting. it was fun listening to the questions and hearing the answers from chris as he ripped open some pics. susan did a great job as mediator, but i could tell she was itching to bust open some packs as well. good job to both of you.
2013 topps series 1 looks great. i had one card shop in my area, went there yesterday and found out that he closed shop. so its retail only for me until another shop comes into my small town. anyway i love the design of the cards this year. totally different from anything that topps has done in the past. the minis as always will be a big hit in this years product, but i feel in love with the silver slugger insert. the design of that card looks amazing and i cant wait to get one.
the chasing history insert is a cool idea. with both the gold and silver foil combos was a great idea. another insert i like is the award cards. saw a few on ebay an they look amazing. the auto’s look like a tougher pull then most (i think the sliver slugger maybe harder to pull) as are the pink cards. the rookie card manufactured patch cards are a good look as well (didnt see a thomas one, hopefully series 2). overalll i cant wait to go to walmart friday and bust open some packs of my own. have my fingers crossed that maybe ill win a box from the great ladies and gentlemen at beckett. thanks again chris and susan.
Topps and Beckett Rule!!!
I really enjoyed the live box break. All three hours of it hah! It gave me something to listen to during work and made me want to go out and buy some packs to open. I look forward to to seeing more of these in the future! thanks for the fun!
Love the in depth info on your box breaks. Will definitely bust a box or two. Well done Mr. Olds.
Good show i thought it went very well plus it was good to see google plus get maxed out now you got just a few weeks to get ready for heritage
Was going to stay away from this set this year but the more I see the more I like. Curse you addicition! The chrome set of this should look awesome.
Cant wait to get my hands on some of those 2013 Topps cards… Astros in retro unis look awesome.
Whether you collect to sell and make money or for the enjoyment of putting sets together and trading, the excitement of opening a pack never gets old.
Thoroughly enjoyed the live box busters. I particularly enjoy the idea of being able to chat with the Beckett staff about specific releases and the industry as a whole. “Real talk” about cards and the industry is what these should be about. Thanks again to Chris and Susan.
Please pick me. I am only 12 and I don’t get many hobby boxes and I would really enjoy it. Enjoyed the video.
New and different, quite a lot of fun to watch, though. Too bad I had work to be done and could only come in and out watching it. But I enjoyed the parts I saw. All in all, it is something I would like to see more of, but not replace regular Box Busters.
I hope you guys do this again soon…say for Heritage. Thanks to smartphone technology, I was able to keep up with the live feed for about 90 minutes or so. Sadly, duty called (yes, I was at work) and my ‘extended’ lunch break was cut about two hours shorter than the event. Okay, that may sound bad, but people list to music and/or the radio at work throughout the day. I cannot listen to Chris and Susan for a fraction of that time?!?!
Topps seems to have put together another solid flagship series, and their inserts really sink the hook in me. Putting together a base set of current players is nice, but I always find myself chasing down (excuse the pun) the insert sets, especially ones that are heavy on the stars of the past or that come with a more vintage appearance. I admit, I drool a little bit thinking about a ’72 mini of Jim Rice. Anyway, the live format was nice, and I am certain that people appreciated the live Q and A that you two provided. The next time you two do this, I’m taking a half day and enjoying it all!
CHRIS & SUSAN
AWESOME VIDEO!! I THOUGHT I WOULDN’T LIKE THIS YEARS TOPPS SET BUT I THINK THY LOOK GREAT I LIKE THE GLOSSY LOOK AND THE INSERTS ARE AMAZING!! A LITTLE DISSAPPOINTED THERE’S NO MORE MANTLE CARDS BUT I GUESS WE’LL LIVE !!! PLEASE PICK ME AS ONE OF THE WINNERS OF A BOX MY WIFE WON’T LET ME BUY A BOX OF MY OWN HAHAHA!!! NO BUT SERIOUSLY PICK ME !!! Seriously !!
I wanted to watch live but I had to run out and buy some new cards. Picked up 2 Jumbo packs and pulled a relic and an Auto.
I was on the Google+ stream, and was enjoying it a ton… at least up until we lost the ability to post. I know it was an unforseen function of how the service works, and not having used Google+ before, wouldn’t have seen it coming either. Overall though, I thought it was really fun getting to interact with one of these box busters videos, and hope to get the chance to do so again with Topps Heritage or whatever release you get the opportunity to break next. You guys picked the perfect product to start this out with. As far as I am considered, Topps Baseball is the cornerstone of the hobby.
See? You got swish…just..in a corner…on someone elses card…yeah. haha. Nice, glad I could watch this as it was fun. Good rips, great questions and fantastic replys esp regarding the PED’s.
The photos on the base cards look to me, to be the best in the last few years. I could do without some of the inserts they seem to be the same from last year just a different backround design. All in all a standard Topps break always fun.
I really liked the live box busters. was great to be able to interact with you both while waiting for payday to get my own box…and maybe i win one too. looking forward to future live breaks!!
The video was awesome, thanks for doing it live. I would love to bust a box but this poor college kid will have to stock to busting a few retail packs.
Do you really give out prizes? Who has ever won anything as I have entered every contest in the past months. Let me believe this is real! Let me win something so I can tweet Facebook and google + about it! Good luck me!
Go Braves! Go Packers! Go Magic!
Would love to win a box! Watched live and immediately drove all over town trying to find some at retail! Shelves were empty! Help Chris Olds, you’re my only hope!
I tuned in live earlier. Great Idea and was really neat that you answered questions live. The only thing would be nice if there was a way to send you questions without having to sign up for an account on twitter, google+ or some other goofy social media service. How about something simple on your website to alow interaction?
that was a great idea of a live break, just to bad i had to work and miss it but would love to win that box as i have ventured away from hockey a bit and have started buying football and baseball a bit more and this would be a nice way to start off 2013
I have never bought into Topps series 1 or 2 over the past few years as Bowman Chrome has lured me away. However after seeing this box break and the other posts of breaks on the Beckett box break forum and the Beckett breakdown of the product in one of the past issues of Beckett Baseball…I wish I was back at work so I could afford to pick up a box or 2. I love the look and I love the inserts and possible hits. And one thing I have noticed is that Topps “hits” are always in high demand from other collectors if you don’t pull the card you wanted then you can always trade for it.
I really like the verity of cards you could pull from any given pack. I can see this set and all of its inserts being very appealing to a wide collectors base
I really like the live version, I got way more info from the viewer questions than I expected. Looks like this set with all the paralells will be nearly impossible to complete. I will have some soon! Thanks again.
So what’s it feel like to possibly pull the last NY Yankee card of Alex Rodriguez? Do you feel joy or disappointment being Arod was a spokesmen for Topps for a number of years.
I really like the idea of Box Busters Live and hope you do more. I also think Topps did a nice job with Series 1 this year, the manufactured relics look very good.
This is my first time ever having purchased multiple boxes of a new product. Getting to participate today was like Christmas and your favorite college level class all wrapped up together. Thanks for “dropping the knowledge” on all of us and helping make this hobby even more enjoyable.
This years set looks pretty solid. Nice base design, inserts an parallels. Pretty good bang for your buck with topps.
Overall, great video! Love the Q & A. Nice to get this type of inside info. Would like to see more of this format in the future. Maybe some of the other big releases. Maybe 2013 Allen & Ginter?!?!?! =)
The ’72 mini’s are sweet. I am going to be putting the whole set together!!
Chris, I did pretty good with the A’s pulls today. Peacock & Parker Auto’s and also Cespedes relic. Don’t be jealous!! Keep rippin’ and I’ll keep watchin’
I really enjoyed watching this. Very cool format! Very interesting to watch, wish I could have caught it live! Would like to see more of this with other products. Keep up the good work, keeping the collecting world in the loop!
I enjoyed watching it. With everything new there are ups and downs but it was more fun to be live right with you instead of just watching the video after you have busted.
Topps certainly makes a lot of parallels and inserts. Something for everyone. I am still trying to digest/understand the Chase online component for this year. I have grown less and less fond of that part as it has changed from Million card–>Diamond–>Golden giveaways.
Thanks for a great contest!
This was a lot of fun. I watched while I worked. I was able to find some of the 2013′s a bit early at Target this week. I look forward to seeing more of these and hopefully Susan will do a live hockey break!
Seeing the Topps packs hit the market is always a nice reminder that the season is right around the corner. Keep the reviews coming and keep up the good work.
I love vintage Topps the best, but it’s always fun to bust a box!
I liked it to some degree. I am a huge fan of box busting and box busting live is fun. The replay was really long, I dont have 3 hours+ to watch, but I can scan the monitor for highlights. There was some down time, but you guys arent movie stars, you are there for informing us about the cool things and keeping us in the know.
I do like watching your retail box busters Chris and it is nice to see a new face
Verry Cool. Do you think it is possible to collect a complet set of all cards. Also any idea how to get a job working at Topps. Would be great to be involved in making these sets.
Wow, there was some good stuff in there! I can’t wait to get my own box!
I really enjoyed it, productivity at work took a beating, hope you guys do it again for upcoming products. The one ripper one moderator format worked really well I thought.
Really enjoyed the video. It was fun. Definitely a great concept, helped me get even more excited about the product this year.
Giveaways are good, along with Topps Baseball 2013!
It was interesting, but i was a little confused about the “comments / questions”. It may be because i signed in after it started. Were you suppose to use the Chat? Wasn’t sure because you could not see anyone else – maybe the watchers would want to comment with each other. Also, it is difficult to watch during “working” hours. I thought using Google was a good idea. As you do it more often, i am sure it will be better.
Very cool! I always look forward to this time of year when Topps comes out! It means spring and Baseball aren’t that far away!
Great break and a very nice looking product for the Topps flagship this year. While not a fan of short prints, the Out of Bounds sps have some great photography.
Nice Break, Always love Topps Series 1. No Swisher? You was ROBBED!!!!
Box Busters is great! I can’t open every product, or even close to every product, but I sure appreciate being able to gather info before I decide what to buy. Classic Topps product and this one is solid.
HONESTLY … Susan Lulgjuraj was distracting … it’s a LOT easier to pay attention when you’re just looking @ ‘ole Mr. Olds … GREAT JOB – PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE do it again … Nice work guys & gals!!!!!
HAVENT COLLECTED FOR ABOUT 10 YEARS BOUGHT A BOX OF TOPPS BASEBALL 2013 IMPRESSED WITH WHAT I FPOUND IN THE WAX PACKS EXCITED ABOUT COLLECTING AGAIN
Product looks good. Gonna have to pick up a few boxes.
I like it. Will buy a box maybe a jumbo box tomorrow.
This has been Great! Please do these for any upcoming baseball card release. I always have enjoyed the “Ripping Retail” but the Live breaks takes it to a new level with the opportunity to ask questions live.
After an exciting Football card season, I have to say I am just as pumped for Baseball as well! I hope my favorite team the Rockies are just as pumped!!!
I like the look of the base cards this year. To me it look is like they took a lot of time to make the cards look great to the base cards in the past. There is one problem I do not like this year is that there is no Mickey Mantle in this set at all. He was a great player but which somebody would make more of his cards. LOL. But I like the design and the inserts that 2013 Topps is bring to people.
my thoughts on the video? more susan, less chris! ;)
Watched live on google+ from start to finish! collected cards as a kid and have recently picked it back up. loved all the info you guys gave in the video. great inserts and good looking cards. would love to have a box to open.
I really enjoyed the live break. I especially like the interaction with the viewers. Will definitely tune in to the next one.
Love Box Busters! Always watch to see what hit ratios are there, plus watching for my favorite players and teams!
I thought the live box break is a great idea because then i will know what comes with the product and what it looks like and i can see if i am really interested in the product I rate topps 2013 a 7 out of ten because almost every box comes with relics and i am more of an autograph fan the cards look decent. I am glad chris and susan had the chance to answer all of our questions because there was alot i had when i was watching live i hope you to get to do this again and thank you for doing this
I really liked this “Marathon Busters”. Timing was good during the day so a lot of different people got to see at least parts of it. As for the set, looks nice! Reminds me more of a Bowman set looks-wise, but it still looks sharp. The parallels are cool as well. The Emeralds look really nice, and I bet the Pinks do too! (Too bad you didn’t hit any). The GUs look really sharp too, especially the Konderko.
I would encourage Beckett to do more Marathon Busters in the future because it’s good for everyone! Collectors around the world get to have a first look at a huge product of the year and Chris Olds gets to open boxes of cards for 3 straight hours! Great for all, thanks again for this!
I really enjoyed this. I love the silver slugger card. Can you imagine a set of gold glove cards using real gold that would rock. Greg maddux could have an 18 card set.
I would like to see yall do this for the racing side also once. I know it couldnt be an every time thing but maybe once each month you do a different sport.
i think the Greats card are pretty slick looking. continuing the legends and i know that some are numbered.
Is there any pricing info on Profar and Bundy and i got both of them today in retail hanger packs.
did i like it, no, i LOVED IT!!!!!!! good idea on the Q&A
I loved the interactive box break!! I really like the clean design this year and think the inserts are nice as well. After watching i got the fever and couldn’t wait to get to a hobby shop so I settled for target. Yu Darvish Die-Cut was the best thing I got unless the 2 chase codes turn up something good! Anyways, love the live break idea. It gives us the chance to ask questions that would only be thought of as you are ripping through packs. Keep up the good work. p.s. Chris Olds is my favorite Twitter guy, loved the grab bag pics.
FROM MOD: Winner of a free box.
I love the banter and the cards.. meh..
paralleled to death!
Glad you covered retail, especially reflective Chasing History and Toy R Us. I like working on the retail parallels. Enjoy the fun of the chase and collecting.
Great video. I hope you do more live breaks.
Mike, pricing won’t be available for about two weeks after release date.
I’d love a box! I’m a bit jealous of a female with an interest in cards! My wife doesn’t know anything about baseball, she “tolerates” my cards but hates the spring because that’s when my baseball obsession kicks in full force!
To Chris and Susan,
It’s always interesting/fun/informative to watch a box break, especially the 1st Topps of the new baseball season. My friends and I used to get excited for Feb 15, when pitchers & catchers report to Spring Training camp each year, but now my excitement starts a couple of weeks earlier than that with the first rip into Topps Series 1. The anticipation for the new season has officially begun. If you two keep up this tradition, you’ll be to baseball like Dick Clark was to New Years! :)
This new format is good, but I’d like to see less questions and more ripping! It took a little too much time. IMO
FYI: While watching, I just ripped along with you and busted several blasters and hangers …. didn’t get anything as cool as that silver slugger award card! Although I did get 2 Camo cards. They’re pretty nice.
Keep up the good work!
Dr Mitch J
Can’t wait to get my hands on a box!!!
Very informative box busters. thanks for answering the questions.. cards look cool for a standard base set.
Looks like a great product, looking forward to getting some of the minis.
Can’t wait for mine to come in so I can rip into ‘em.
I Always love the topps brand. The awards manufactured relics are cool. Also the mini relics and autos are awesome. The base design is clean as always. It looks like another good year of topps!
Dear Chris and Susan,
I would strangle a moose with a 3 foot long piece of dental floss, gut it with my teeth and use the hide as a coat, then climb Mt. Everest barefoot while listening to Justin Bieber and cannibalizing on my climbing partner just to have a 1% chance to be able to win a box of 2013 Topps baseball cards.
I was wondering If r.a dickey has a auto this year and if he is featured as a blue jay great work guys keep it up
Please pick me. And I also have a question. How many different boxes. Like a Hobby box, Jumbo box, maybe 2 hobby boxes or 2 Jumbos?
Phil didn’t see his shadow and the release of Topps. Spring is near for sure.
Great looking product and thanks for all the info.
Those ultimate chase cards are quite enticing!
This was a great show, little long but very informative for the new Topps product. I would love to win the box of cards to do my own break, as its so hard to get new product here in Germany with the Army.
The google app was very good, reminds me of a sort of teleconference….this will be the new way forward for all live breaks.
I want that Belle Silver Slugger card. Being a tortured Tribe fan that loved Belle before he was Albert it would be great to get this card. This box break got me excited for grabbing a hobby jumbo at my local card shop.
Nice cards for a regular issue.
The new Topps cards are very nice and I like the timing of getting the cards just before spring training. For those of us that truly love baseball, spring starts in February.
Loved the break! The new 2013 Topps baseball look great. The inserts such as the Silver Sluggers and die cuts are my favorites. The neat thing is that my 12 year old son is excited to rip into some of them to start his baseball collection, it’s always funner to see kids open them up!!! Please consider us for the free box, and thank you for giving us fans the opportunity!
Hi Chris and Susan,
Was able to take part in the live box bust. Was a lot of fun. Thanks for answering my questions Chris.
Got some great vids, always fun to watch.
Can’t get cards easily here in UK so is always good to see your vids first before buying any packs.
Hope you do another live one soon.
Keep up the good work.
good inaugural box busters live. sometimes the pacing lagged, but there was a lot of good info/Q&A and showing off the cards – so i understand it’s a delicate balance. the set’s a good looking one across the board…glad they carried over the retro minis from last year.
Watching post video….was pretty kool. But real world work does demand sleep. So must sleep. Working for packs and dreams of a grand poobah hit.
Cheers from Da Bayou
As usual Topps Baseball is a great product. Thought the design was even better when i got them than what I had seen in pictures.
I liked the new format of busting wax. I will be buying the jumbo packs to compleat a set.
I really enjoyed the live break, and hope that you do more in the future. One thing that was NOT good though was that it seemed you had at least 6 different places you could comment/ask questions (beckett dot com, Chris’ Sooz’ and Beckett’s twitter, you tube, and two different places on google plus), but you were only reading comments/questions from one place. This was especially bad because the place you were reading comments from (google plus) had two places to comment. I (for one) couldn’t get the video to play on the page where the comments/questions were read, so I commented on the other google plus page (thinking my comments could be seen). Plus, not many people use google plus, so it might be better to do it at a site where more people have accounts (so that they don’t have to sign up for something else they may never use again).
I know I’m sounding very negative, but overall it was a very cool event, and one that I hope you do again. The first time doing something always involves a bunch of kinks that need to be worked out, and I’m sure you’ll work on those for future live box breaks.
What do I think? Man! That was a long video. Work wouldn’t allow me to watch it live so I watched it in 10 and 15 minute increments and now a week later I’ll comment. I love Topps product. I like the inserts and I like the look of the base cards. Probably why I’ve been collecting them for the past 43 years. As far as your live rip, like I said, I couldn’t watch it live but it looks like a lot of blurry shots and a lot shots with Susan full screen while Chris is holding up cards in the little tiny box below her. I’d like to see the cards better. Informative though and I appreciate the effort and would love to win a box of this product.
i keep watching the box buster video. it is awesom.. wish i could afford a box or even some packs
thanks for the video
did you pick a winner?
Will pick one on Monday.
Thanks. This is my first time.
I don’t know if I am late with this or not, but as of this Wednesday at the latest, Topps 2013 is showing up at Toys R Us. I wasn’t able to pick any up, but they do appear to have the purple border cards included. 2.99 per pack with 3 exclusive cards packed in.
1. THE SHOW WOULD BE A LITTLE MORE ATTRACTIVE IF YOU GUYS WOULD PLACE A THIRD CAM ONLINE FACING DOWN ON THE BREAK. IT WOULD PROBABLY BE EASIER ON CHRIS. i WOULD LIKE TO SEE MORE CARDS LIKE THESE FOR A SINGLE REASON. THE OVERALL PHOTOGRAPHIC JOURNEY REALLY SEEMS TO CAPTURE THE FEEL OF THE GAME. I LOVE THE “MOMENT” CAPTURED ON JUST ABOUT ALL CARDS. THE METAL ON THE CARD WAS GENIUS; I BELIEVE MINI STATUES ARE NEXT….LOL
Love the new topps.
But way to many autos.
