I can’t get the google page to work (freezes up when I want to leave a comment). Is there more than one style of jersey type cards in this year’s series one?

So, can you do anything for “smucks” like me that can’t get the google page to work, when it comes to your give-aways?

You could also add Jurickson Profar, Mike Olt, and Darin Ruf as potentially solid rookies. It’s actually a pretty good group for the first set of the year. Cool ideas guys

Hello! Joining the chat a little late from the East Coast. Which rookies in this set (Series 1) are going to be the hottest hits for you? I’m assuming Bundy and Profar top the list. I pulled a Bundy last night.

Too many idiots whining about giveaways. How about you contribute something to the discussion first?

And also, stop asking simple questions in the chat like “how does the wrapper redemption work?” when there is a big post right here on the blog giving you all the available info.

I know a lot of people really dig the mini cards, but I say enough already! Other than that, looks really good this year.

Posted January 30, 2013 at 6:22 pm | Permalink

It’s another solid Topps effort, they are the flagship. Honestly though, I miss the old card stock of when I was a kid. That’s why Topps Heritage is the product I’ll be saving up for, and that I’m looking forward to having you guys break. I’ve seen Chris in packbusting videos before, it was fun to see Susan Lulgjuraj (spelled it right that time?) – it’s great to have women in the hobby as well. Would you ever consider having a kid come in and help with the box breaking? I miss having kids in the hobby, and perhaps having a youngster hanging out with you and breaking packs and being excited would appeal to that demographic. Great effort by you two, it was fun spending the afternoon “hanging out”

despite the technical glitches this was the best box busters to date. i know there were problems on the google plus site (thats where i was asking ???) and the site actually went down but i hope that doesnt stop you from doing another live busting. it was fun listening to the questions and hearing the answers from chris as he ripped open some pics. susan did a great job as mediator, but i could tell she was itching to bust open some packs as well. good job to both of you.
2013 topps series 1 looks great. i had one card shop in my area, went there yesterday and found out that he closed shop. so its retail only for me until another shop comes into my small town. anyway i love the design of the cards this year. totally different from anything that topps has done in the past. the minis as always will be a big hit in this years product, but i feel in love with the silver slugger insert. the design of that card looks amazing and i cant wait to get one.
the chasing history insert is a cool idea. with both the gold and silver foil combos was a great idea. another insert i like is the award cards. saw a few on ebay an they look amazing. the auto’s look like a tougher pull then most (i think the sliver slugger maybe harder to pull) as are the pink cards. the rookie card manufactured patch cards are a good look as well (didnt see a thomas one, hopefully series 2). overalll i cant wait to go to walmart friday and bust open some packs of my own. have my fingers crossed that maybe ill win a box from the great ladies and gentlemen at beckett. thanks again chris and susan.

New and different, quite a lot of fun to watch, though. Too bad I had work to be done and could only come in and out watching it. But I enjoyed the parts I saw. All in all, it is something I would like to see more of, but not replace regular Box Busters.

I hope you guys do this again soon…say for Heritage. Thanks to smartphone technology, I was able to keep up with the live feed for about 90 minutes or so. Sadly, duty called (yes, I was at work) and my ‘extended’ lunch break was cut about two hours shorter than the event. Okay, that may sound bad, but people list to music and/or the radio at work throughout the day. I cannot listen to Chris and Susan for a fraction of that time?!?!

Topps seems to have put together another solid flagship series, and their inserts really sink the hook in me. Putting together a base set of current players is nice, but I always find myself chasing down (excuse the pun) the insert sets, especially ones that are heavy on the stars of the past or that come with a more vintage appearance. I admit, I drool a little bit thinking about a ’72 mini of Jim Rice. Anyway, the live format was nice, and I am certain that people appreciated the live Q and A that you two provided. The next time you two do this, I’m taking a half day and enjoying it all!

I was on the Google+ stream, and was enjoying it a ton… at least up until we lost the ability to post. I know it was an unforseen function of how the service works, and not having used Google+ before, wouldn’t have seen it coming either. Overall though, I thought it was really fun getting to interact with one of these box busters videos, and hope to get the chance to do so again with Topps Heritage or whatever release you get the opportunity to break next. You guys picked the perfect product to start this out with. As far as I am considered, Topps Baseball is the cornerstone of the hobby.
Thanks

The photos on the base cards look to me, to be the best in the last few years. I could do without some of the inserts they seem to be the same from last year just a different backround design. All in all a standard Topps break always fun.

that was a great idea of a live break, just to bad i had to work and miss it but would love to win that box as i have ventured away from hockey a bit and have started buying football and baseball a bit more and this would be a nice way to start off 2013

I have never bought into Topps series 1 or 2 over the past few years as Bowman Chrome has lured me away. However after seeing this box break and the other posts of breaks on the Beckett box break forum and the Beckett breakdown of the product in one of the past issues of Beckett Baseball…I wish I was back at work so I could afford to pick up a box or 2. I love the look and I love the inserts and possible hits. And one thing I have noticed is that Topps “hits” are always in high demand from other collectors if you don’t pull the card you wanted then you can always trade for it.

Topps certainly makes a lot of parallels and inserts. Something for everyone. I am still trying to digest/understand the Chase online component for this year. I have grown less and less fond of that part as it has changed from Million card–>Diamond–>Golden giveaways.

It was interesting, but i was a little confused about the “comments / questions”. It may be because i signed in after it started. Were you suppose to use the Chat? Wasn’t sure because you could not see anyone else – maybe the watchers would want to comment with each other. Also, it is difficult to watch during “working” hours. I like the look of the base cards this year. To me it look is like they took a lot of time to make the cards look great to the base cards in the past. There is one problem I do not like this year is that there is no Mickey Mantle in this set at all. He was a great player but which somebody would make more of his cards. LOL. But I like the design and the inserts that 2013 Topps is bring to people.

I am glad chris and susan had the chance to answer all of our questions because there was alot i had when i was watching live i hope you to get to do this again and thank you for doing this

I really liked this “Marathon Busters”. Timing was good during the day so a lot of different people got to see at least parts of it. As for the set, looks nice! Reminds me more of a Bowman set looks-wise, but it still looks sharp. The parallels are cool as well. The Emeralds look really nice, and I bet the Pinks do too! (Too bad you didn’t hit any). The GUs look really sharp too, especially the Konderko.

I would encourage Beckett to do more Marathon Busters in the future because it’s good for everyone! Collectors around the world get to have a first look at a huge product of the year and Chris Olds gets to open boxes of cards for 3 straight hours! Great for all, thanks again for this!

I really enjoyed this. I love the silver slugger card. Can you imagine a set of gold glove cards using real gold that would rock. Greg maddux could have an 18 card set.

I would like to see yall do this for the racing side also once. I know it couldnt be an every time thing but maybe once each month you do a different sport.

I loved the interactive box break!! I really like the clean design this year and think the inserts are nice as well. After watching i got the fever and couldn’t wait to get to a hobby shop so I settled for target. Yu Darvish Die-Cut was the best thing I got unless the 2 chase codes turn up something good! Anyways, love the live break idea. It gives us the chance to ask questions that would only be thought of as you are ripping through packs. Keep up the good work. p.s. Chris Olds is my favorite Twitter guy, loved the grab bag pics.

FROM MOD: Winner of a free box.

Glad you covered retail, especially reflective Chasing History and Toy R Us. I like working on the retail parallels. Enjoy the fun of the chase and collecting.

I’d love a box! I’m a bit jealous of a female with an interest in cards! My wife doesn’t know anything about baseball, she “tolerates” my cards but hates the spring because that’s when my baseball obsession kicks in full force!

To Chris and Susan,
It’s always interesting/fun/informative to watch a box break, especially the 1st Topps of the new baseball season. My friends and I used to get excited for Feb 15, when pitchers & catchers report to Spring Training camp each year, but now my excitement starts a couple of weeks earlier than that with the first rip into Topps Series 1. The anticipation for the new season has officially begun. If you two keep up this tradition, you’ll be to baseball like Dick Clark was to New Years! :)
This new format is good, but I’d like to see less questions and more ripping! It took a little too much time. IMO
FYI: While watching, I just ripped along with you and busted several blasters and hangers …. didn’t get anything as cool as that silver slugger award card! Although I did get 2 Camo cards. They’re pretty nice.
Keep up the good work!

I Always love the topps brand. The awards manufactured relics are cool. Also the mini relics and autos are awesome. The base design is clean as always. It looks like another good year of topps!

Dear Chris and Susan,
I would strangle a moose with a 3 foot long piece of dental floss, gut it with my teeth and use the hide as a coat, then climb Mt. Everest barefoot while listening to Justin Bieber and cannibalizing on my climbing partner just to have a 1% chance to be able to win a box of 2013 Topps baseball cards.

Please pick me. And I also have a question. How many different boxes. Like a Hobby box, Jumbo box, maybe 2 hobby boxes or 2 Jumbos?

This was a great show, little long but very informative for the new Topps product. I would love to win the box of cards to do my own break, as its so hard to get new product here in Germany with the Army.

The google app was very good, reminds me of a sort of teleconference….this will be the new way forward for all live breaks.

I want that Belle Silver Slugger card. Being a tortured Tribe fan that loved Belle before he was Albert it would be great to get this card. This box break got me excited for grabbing a hobby jumbo at my local card shop.

The new Topps cards are very nice and I like the timing of getting the cards just before spring training. For those of us that truly love baseball, spring starts in February.

Loved the break! The new 2013 Topps baseball look great. The inserts such as the Silver Sluggers and die cuts are my favorites. The neat thing is that my 12 year old son is excited to rip into some of them to start his baseball collection, it’s always funner to see kids open them up!!! Please consider us for the free box, and thank you for giving us fans the opportunity!

Hi Chris and Susan,

Was able to take part in the live box bust. Was a lot of fun. Thanks for answering my questions Chris.

Got some great vids, always fun to watch.

Can’t get cards easily here in UK so is always good to see your vids first before buying any packs.

Hope you do another live one soon.

Keep up the good work.

good inaugural box busters live. sometimes the pacing lagged, but there was a lot of good info/Q&A and showing off the cards – so i understand it’s a delicate balance. the set’s a good looking one across the board…glad they carried over the retro minis from last year.

Watching post video….was pretty kool. But real world work does demand sleep. So must sleep. Working for packs and dreams of a grand poobah hit.

I really enjoyed the live break, and hope that you do more in the future. One thing that was NOT good though was that it seemed you had at least 6 different places you could comment/ask questions (beckett dot com, Chris’ Sooz’ and Beckett’s twitter, you tube, and two different places on google plus), but you were only reading comments/questions from one place. This was especially bad because the place you were reading comments from (google plus) had two places to comment. I (for one) couldn’t get the video to play on the page where the comments/questions were read, so I commented on the other google plus page (thinking my comments could be seen). Plus, not many people use google plus, so it might be better to do it at a site where more people have accounts (so that they don’t have to sign up for something else they may never use again).

I know I’m sounding very negative, but overall it was a very cool event, and one that I hope you do again. The first time doing something always involves a bunch of kinks that need to be worked out, and I’m sure you’ll work on those for future live box breaks.

Posted February 5, 2013 at 3:09 pm | Permalink

What do I think? Man! That was a long video. Work wouldn’t allow me to watch it live so I watched it in 10 and 15 minute increments and now a week later I’ll comment. I love Topps product. I like the inserts and I like the look of the base cards. Probably why I’ve been collecting them for the past 43 years. As far as your live rip, like I said, I couldn’t watch it live but it looks like a lot of blurry shots and a lot shots with Susan full screen while Chris is holding up cards in the little tiny box below her. I’d like to see the cards better. Informative though and I appreciate the effort and would love to win a box of this product.

I don’t know if I am late with this or not, but as of this Wednesday at the latest, Topps 2013 is showing up at Toys R Us. I wasn’t able to pick any up, but they do appear to have the purple border cards included. 2.99 per pack with 3 exclusive cards packed in.

1. THE SHOW WOULD BE A LITTLE MORE ATTRACTIVE IF YOU GUYS WOULD PLACE A THIRD CAM ONLINE FACING DOWN ON THE BREAK. IT WOULD PROBABLY BE EASIER ON CHRIS. i WOULD LIKE TO SEE MORE CARDS LIKE THESE FOR A SINGLE REASON. THE OVERALL PHOTOGRAPHIC JOURNEY REALLY SEEMS TO CAPTURE THE FEEL OF THE GAME. I LOVE THE “MOMENT” CAPTURED ON JUST ABOUT ALL CARDS. THE METAL ON THE CARD WAS GENIUS; I BELIEVE MINI STATUES ARE NEXT….LOL
