As the University of Notre Dame celebrates one of its best seasons, Upper Deck is taking a moment to remember the storied football program.

The company released information on 2012 Upper Deck Notre Dame Football highlighting Fighting Irish icons from the past century. It seems like perfect timing since Notre Dame is headed to the BCS National Championship on Jan. 7 after going 12-0 in the regular season.

Every hobby box will include 80 cards – base sets, inserts and one autograph.

The autograph checklist is one of the best college football ones compiled. Names include Notre Dame icons such as Paul Hornung, Joe Theisman, Tim Brown, Ricky Watters, Lou Holtz, Brian Kelly, Jerome Bettis, Brady Quinn, and Rudy Ruettiger.

Collectors will be able to find retail blasters of Notre Dame football. Blasters will contain exclusive mini replica national championship banners.

Upper Deck has not given a release date yet.

I wasn’t too sure about these college sets at first but they’ve really grown on me. The boxes are affordable and the autos seem to fetch decent prices on the secondary market. I’m hoping for a Michigan set soon!

i can pretty much guarantee the tk legacy notre dame set will be far better than the UD release. tk legacy features on card signatures, ud will go with stickers

I hope upper deck does a better research job than sample cards “Irish player scores TD….” How difficult would it be to get a program from the game and look up #17; unless there are legal reasons they cannot name names

12 National Championships, and SEVEN Heisman Trophy winners does not spell over rated to me. You don’t have to like them, but they have a heritage worthy of a product like this.

GO IRISH! I’m in as long as the Autos aren’t one per every 97 boxes!!!! C’mon Upper Deck. Don’t screw this one up. I don’t want punter and kicker Autos!

I just wish the research include not duplicating what others like collegiate collectiona nd tk legacy have already done and put some other players in there. It’s the same as all the card companies going with the same 6 guys from the nfl teams. It’s lame and destroying the true collector’s part of the hobby of adding more players not more cards.
