Panini Classic Signatures Hockey goes live

By Susan Lulgjuraj | Beckett Hockey Editor

As NHL owners and players talk in a dark, locked room (at least that’s how I picture it), NHL fans await word on whether the lockout will end.

At least collectors have something new to collect to take their minds off an announcement that might never come. Panini released 2012-13 Classic Signatures featuring autographs of many former players – proving the lockout can’t take away from the storied history of the NHL.

Classic Signatures comes with six cards per pack with five cards, including one autograph, in every pack.

The on-card autographs look sharp with its retro feel.

Here are some of the hits that have come out of Panini Classic Signatures.

- 2012 Panini Classic Signatures Gordie Howe Auto

This horrible product has set a new record for Fail out of the gate, major price drop at the LCS from 189 to 149…even the owners realize they need to dump this bust product fast. Two products in a row that bit the dust for Panini hockey already in 2012……

Aesthetically, I think this one could be a very fun product to rip and examine.

Seems to be a heavy emphasis on defunct teams … as a former Hartford Whalers fan, I noticed there’s eight different Whalers in the base set, six of those with autograph cards, plus three more in the “notable nicknames,” plus two other Whalers inserts, including an SP Gordie Howe. Wouldn’t buy a box, but this will give me some singles to chase down for a while.

I am sorry panini but this won’t cut it. Last year everything you touched turned to gold this year looks like you are going to have go back to the drawing board. Certified -fail, Classics -fail, from what i have seen so far from titanium(one of the best products released last year) yes its not out yet but it looks like -fail. Well at least we know all you good people are human.
