The set looks nice, but I hate that Panini has the sole license for NBA cards.

very nice

would love to buy some Gold Standard… .but with the high prices of packs, I mean boxes… I just can’t do it anymore.. I love collecting basketball cards (can’t afford to collect every sport, so I stay with my first love)…

but with Panini having the sole license for NBA cards & not competition amongst NBA card manufacturers…. I have grown away from collecting… it is not fun anymore.

RC cards start out worth ton of money, but then drop the following year… I hated the no RC cards, then a double RC class killed my collecting dreams last year.. I bought way less boxes & started going after older cards..

The last NBA set that I enjoyed collecting was Elite Black Box… I liked the 200 card check list & low numbered base cards /99…. unlike Limited & Gold Standard, with the higher print run…

I loved Limited, but no longer buy them, nor collect them..

This looks like a nice product……this should tie-into one of your last articles……Kids Collecting.

Here is the real issue today….Average pack price per sport!
I did a quick average on just this years Panini Basketball packs and so-called one pack boxes. The Average price per pack was near $40.00 per pack and we haven’t got to the high-dollar packs/boxes yet this year.
Seriously! Do you think some kid will buy a pack/box of this product for over $200 to $400 dollars?

You should do an average pack price for this years products (nice article for Beckett) and maybe the results will awaken the manufacturers to what will be in store for them with these insane price structures. I never really realized until the other day when I thought, “What is the average pack price today compared to,
lets say 1991.” It might be a bad comparison but you will soon realize the pricing structure is completely out of wack.

The Best thing to do is wait..wait until next year and buy this years product at discount rates…it will happen.

And come on Panini…I picked up a pack of Prizm….Toni Kukoc? are you SERIOUS…He was never anyone to collect anyways but I guess you needed more fill for your wallets.
And 100 rookie signatures per series or label? And how many products do you have out there? YAH it sure sounds like a watered out year to me, especially since the Kobe autos are now going for under $200.

To many products mass produced—-OOppps sounds like the same old problem…They just don’t listen.\

i would have to agree witht the comments above i always through that a monopoly on a certain sport was not good, not saying panini is not doing a good job, there needs to be more than 1 company making cards, they are killing baseball, with this non team logo and black and white photo, this is not what you see when you go to a ball game, so i think this is not what i should see on my Baseball card, sorry got of the topic of basketball, its important to keep ones mind guessing, this doesn’t happen, but on the other hand because this has become about money, and not so much about the love of the game, like in the past, its ok, i know they over producted in the past 90′S, but fix it, don’t run from it, i don’t think they ever tried to fix it, and limiting it to one producer not fixing it, evey time i read something its about this new great way to do something, and yet they can’t figure this out.

I actually like this years better than the past two. I think the Metal cards will be even more saught aftert than the gold Prizms. I may be wrong, as usual, but I will be trying to save for a case regardless.

Why so many more super high-end sets??? All these companies in the different sports that are the only ones with a license for that sport are RUINING the hobby. What’s wrong with making a set with no (or very few) inserts/parallels? Oh yeah, they only care about the sets that will bring the big bucks. Forget trying to bring more kids into the hobby. Let’s just ruin it now before someone else gets a license too

i would have to say it looks like a very nice product but will be out of my price range. Needless to say that this product is only geared for the 6 figure salary/year worker and not for the middle class like most of the collectors out there.
So i will admire this set from afar.
