Preview Gallery: 2012 Prime Cuts + win a box

THE CONTEST IS NOW CLOSED.

By Chris Olds | Beckett Baseball Editor

You’re not seeing things … Prime Cuts is back and it arrives tomorrow.

While 2011 Prime Cuts arrived in April, the 2012 version of the popular high-end brand arrives on Friday with a different configuration and a new look for the long-running brand’s second release under the Panini America umbrella.

This time around, it will include just two cards per pack — at least one autographed — for approximately $150.

We’ll have a Box Busters episode right here very soon, but be sure to check out a preview gallery — and find out how you can win a box — after the jump.

Prime Cuts: Thumbs up or thumbs down?

How can you win a box?

1. Leave a comment below — along with your name and email address (in the proper field) — telling us what one autograph you would want to find inside a Prime Cuts box and why.

2. Also in the comment below, tell us who appears on card No. 37 in the 2011 Prime Cuts set. Here’s a link to get you pointed in the right direction.

3. Vote in our poll above. (This stuff is tough, we know.)

3. Like Beckett Media on Facebook.

A winner will be randomly selected from all of those with complete/correct answers by 5 p.m. Central time next Friday (Dec. 7).

One autograph i would want to see in a box of 2012 Topps Prime Cuts would be Joe Mauer since he is one of the best catchers ever maybe not as good as lou or johnny but he did wim 3 batting titles, 3 gold glove awards, and in 2009 win the AL MVP award. That’s why i think Joe Mauer should have a autograph in a box of Prime Cuts

One players auto I would like to see in 2012 Prime Cuts is Chipper Jones. I believe he was in this product last year, but he just retired and this is a pretty high end product, so would be a great card to me especially because I collect Braves.

A Nolan Ryan autograph for a variety of reasons, one of them being he no-hit the two best teams in the American League in his 40’s. That’s probably not happening again any time soon. Another being that he was a main guy I chased in my youth

The one autograph card I would like to have from Prime Cuts would be Sandy Koufax. The reason is I listened to him pitch a perfect game for the Dodgers against the Cubs on September 9,1965 beating Bob Hendley who pitched a one hitter and lost. I am a lifelong Dodgers fan and having a Koufax autograph on a product like Prime Cuts would be nice. Card # 37 from 2011 is the American League Rookie of the year and MVP runnerup, Mike Trout

I would love to pull an auto card from Robert Redford wearing his Knights jersey from the Natural. The Natural has always been my favorite movie and I’ve always had great difficulty finding authentic signed pieces from the film. I’m sure they’re out there, but the wife won’t let me give up my daughter to finance paying for the stuff. :-(

1. The one auto I’d like to find from this product is a Joe DiMaggio. Why? Because I am collecting Hall of Famer Autos and have already acquired over half of the “possible” members (I exclude impossible ones from most of the 19th century and some members who died young way before they even knew there was going to be a Hall of Fame. Anyway, I’m still missing a Joltin’ Joe so he’d be my pick. As an aside, I did hit a Derek Jeter auto, Greg Maddux auto, AND a Gehrig jersey card in one pack of 2011! :-)

2. Mike Trout is card #37

3. Done.

3. Part 2…already “Like” Beckett on FB. :-)

Im a Yankee fan so I would love to pull a Babe Ruth or Lou Gherig jersey/Patch cut signature Booklet! The reason why is because they are two of the GREATEST baseball players of all time and because of my Grandpa telling me stories about them all the time when I was a kid. My Grandpa always told me that those guys played for the love of the game, not the money. I lost my grandpa to Alzheimer’s a year ago so pulling that would be extra special because the first thing I would think of after I pulled it would be my Grandpa and unlike a lot of people I would NEVER sell it. Card # 37 is Mike Trout, and thank you for the contest!

I would have to say a Ted Williams auto would be my choice – great hitter and served in the military twice (can’t imagine too of today’s players doing that).

#37 is Mike Trout. And the auto I would like to see the most, is the first Inductee into the Baseball HoF and the only player to bat .320 or higher for 23 seasons straight, batted .400 3 times and who still holds numerous records is none other than the greatest player to ever hold a bat, Mr Tyrus Cobb.

1-Stan Musial ..Actually any HOFer from back in the day. Have so much respect as to how they played. The equipment that was used. The Fields they had to play on. And yet they still excelled no matter what the conditions. I couldn’t imagine playing back then without helmets. Using the gear that was available back then. Like the catchers equipment or lack there of. Would’ve loved to have been alive in that era to see those guys play.

How about a “Hammerin Hank” Aaron or a Frank “Homerun” Baker. They need to give nicknames out to more players . I just hope they don’t start calling Mike Trout “Rainbow”. It’s already been taken. Would love Joe Dimaggio auto. My grandfather was asked to be his photographer at a dinner party that Joe and Marilyn were hosting back when they were married, turns out Joe asked a friend of his who a good photographer would be, and Joe’s friend recommended my Grandfather Ernie. Before Ernie passed away, he told me this story as my grandfather was meeting his great grandaughter for the first time. He was older and very self reflective and asked me what I’d like to be left in his will, he was a techie until his death, had multiple laptops and various electronic equipment. My grandfather told me that at the end of the party Joe had asked my grandfather if he’d like a picture with Joe as Joe knew he was too modest to ask for himself. My grandfather told me he had the photo at home, I told him that was the only thing I wanted, to this day, it’s my centerpiece of my sports memorabilia bookcases and a great talking point to see my very young grandfather with Joe D.
Card 37 is Mike Trout.
Thanks for the opportunity.

Well since its Christmas Id appreciate seeing that Stan Musial barrel under the tree. I remember sleeping out for World Series tickets back in the early 80’s in St Louis with my old man & gramps & they both talked about watching him play. Man I wish I was alive to have seen that. I had to settle for back flips from Ozzie Smith. Great memories. That’s what collecting is all about for me. Now I do it with my son up here in buffalo but only with the Sabres. Same difference.

Thanks guys

Card #37 is Mike Trout’s rookie card and i would be happy to get any of the hall of famers autograph because they actually know how to sign they’re name un like the scribbles that most of theses rookies consider autographs. But if i had to choose one autograph it would be Goose Gossage for two reasons 1. He’s from my home state and 2. his signiture is amazing!!

I’d love to find a Ted Williams auto in a box of Prime Cuts. I don’t think anyone will ever hit .400 in a season again. Setting a record that lasts for 70 years is a truly legendary accomplishment and I’d be thrilled to display a signed Ted Williams card above my mantle.

Mike Trout appears on #37.

Card No.37 is of Michael Nelson Trout

The autograph I would appreciate the most would be from Nolan Ryan. One of the great, revered Texans of all-time. Throughout his entire career he’s been the epitome of a gentleman, a ball player, and a champion of all facets of life. I had the privilege of seeing him pitch, once, in the final game he played in Arlington Stadium…and the smile couldn’t be wiped from my face for weeks. He’s the driving force behind the Texas Rangers’ gamesmanship and winning ways, and his business prowess is above all others. He’s the reason baseball is baseball to me.

Thanks guys,
Zac

Having been born in Baltimore in the 50’s when Bleacher ticket were 65 cents and 5 tops from a local milk carton.(which was the hard part of the deal. knocking on doors and asking) I would like to have a auto of William Howard Tafe. On opening day in 1910 yes the president.Declared that baseball would offcially become our “National Pastime”. On the baseball side I would like Chief Bender HOF 1953. Described as one of the kindest, most honorable men ever to play the game. His stat’s are great no hitter won 6 games in five World Series pitched 3 complete games in one of them.won 20 or more games twiice and led the American League in winning percentage three times.

I would enjoy a Cal Ripken Jr. Sig. I mean I started watching him when I was 5 because of my father. That was his favorite player and it became mine as well. I remember watching Ripken throughout most of his career setting the consecutive games record and until the day he retired. It took a lot of guts and heart and willingness of his wife obviously to let him play through pain and birth of their children. He is the Iron Man and an idol of mine. It would be a dream to have his autograph.

I would love to get a Lou Gehrig auto. He was a good bit before my time, but my grandfather practically worshiped him. As a kid growing up (many moons ago now!), Grandad and I shared our love of baseball, and he would sometimes tell me about the greats he got to see play in HIS prime. One of them was Lou Gehrig, and Grandad always used to say what a courageous man and outstanding player he was. How right my grandfather was!! To this day “the iron man’s” single season AL RBI record still stands.

I would love to see an autograph of Elston Howard. I know it would have to be a cut signature, and would likely be really hard to find, but it would be amazing to get his signature. His name is often not mentioned when talking about the phenomenal African American baseball players who helped break the color barrier and I believe he deserves a lot more recognition then he got. He was an amazing ballplayer.

I started collecting cards at the age of 6 with my dad going to card shows and auctions. My favorite player was Ken Griffey Jr. and I use to trade with friends and I have spent alot of money of mine, my parents, and my grandparents money trying to collect all of his cards. Finally in 1993 I saved enough money to get his 1989 Upper Deck rookie card only to have my whole collection to get hit just as bad as lucent stocks, so that discouraged me from the collecting world until I started back in 2011. I would love to pull a Ken Griffey Jr. Card and help give my over 400 card Griffey collection some validation!
