Some news nuggets heading into a holiday weekend …
Panini America‘s USA Baseball boxed set — its first with the license — arrives today. It will include 62 base cards featuring the 2012 Collegiate National Team, 18U and 15U squads, too. Each $100 (or so) set also will include seven autographs and two memorabilia cards. Among the notables are Cavan Biggio, son of future Hall of Famer Craig.

Topps wants you to be in 2013 Gypsy Queen — on a baseball card. As part of an online promotion on its Facebook page, the baseball card maker will be taking submissions from collectors telling them why they should be a Gypsy King or Gypsy Queen in the 2013 set. Visit its Facebook page for more information. All entries must be received by Friday and a winner will be selected on Tuesday.
