Beckett 20 questions … auction block curiosities

By Chris Olds | Beckett Sports Card Monthly Editor

The auction block has changed you.

Whether it’s eBay or an auction house with sales you don’t have to attend in-person, the auction block has probably shaped more collections than we can imagine. That card you finally tracked down on eBay? You may not even be the second owner. That 1969 Topps set you finally finished? Hundreds of those cards could have changed hands many times — sometimes possibly at auction. (Oh, and we won’t even dwell on all you wax-busting burgeoning auctioneers … )

For the next issue of Beckett Sports Card Monthly, we’re looking at auctions — some of the cool (and weird) stuff sold, some of the notable dealers and more As part of that package, our new tradition of 20 Questions will be included — tell us what you think, starting below and with a comment if you need to, too.

I have been very fortunate this year to have won 15 lots of the Ted Williams personal collection thru Hunt Auctions. Highlights include hand painted/AU VMF-311 Squadron insignia on sheetmetal artist proof 1/3, the stock certificate of the Ted Williams Card Company, the Ted Williams field dedication plaque North Park, San Diego, and two Colonel TW USMC Anniversary Security badges. I hope to post picture in the near future.
