Upper Deck launches credit card program for trading cards

By Susan Lulgjuraj | Beckett Sports Card Monthly Editor

Spending money could earn you more cards.

Upper Deck has launched a program with the Dynamics ePlate Visa credit card to earn digital cards, which in turn can lead to exclusive cards in hand.

When customers select the Upper Deck Experience, they will earn a digital trading card for every $10 spent using the Dynamics ePlate Visa card. The digital cards are instantly sent to your mobile phone.

When an entire digital set is collected, customers will get a UD Infinite foil pack with randomly inserted autographs of athletes such as LeBron James, Tiger Woods and Joe Namath. Collectors can trade or buy digital cards to complete their set quicker.

These cards are only available through the program.

“We’re excited to bring the joy of collecting trading cards to everyday purchases,” said Richard McWilliam, CEO Upper Deck. “The ePlate device allows us to offer virtual cards instantly to our collectors, and the ability to trade with friends to complete sets and earn exclusive, physical cards.”

Sounds just like The Topps Programs. However this seems a bit fishy to me. It is UD. And like honestly, who is going to get the credit card to get virtual cards at the chance to get a set of virtual cards just to end up getting a pack of who knows what inside. I can guarantee you there isnt going to be a star auto in every pack. Have you seen 12-12 UD Autofacts? And we as consumers are paying for those ones. These arent going to be worth the time or interest that will be accrued by trying to get this Virtual Set. I wonder if there will be a Virtual Pack? and you get to Virtually unveil a Virtual Card of Virtual Lebron. Yeah. Another Sucker Scam by UD.
Peace

$99 annual fee and then you have to spend at least $2500 to collect 250 virtual cards? Probably need to spend double that to get the complete set. And who knows, there might be “short printed” virtual cards =)

Rather just wait for someone to pull the LeBron or Tiger and buy it online.
