Preview Gallery: 2012-13 Panini Threads inserts

By Chris Olds | Beckett Basketball Editor

In roughly three weeks, the next Panini America basketball product will arrive — 2012-13 Threads — and it will be packing more than just, you know, threads.

In addition to the game-used memorabilia pieces and the uniform-inspired designs found inside, there will also be some nods to other areas of the hardwood via three insert sets.

One will showcase the air time of players either on their way to the hoop or picking off the boards — High Flyers. Another will focus on the guys inside the paint, perhaps those one doesn’t normally expect to see on an insert set, and that set is Inside Presence. And the third? Well, pick your favorite combos and add a few more to the mix in Talented Twosomes.

An extensive preview of some of the cards just waiting to be found on Oct. 24 are below.

The Talented Twosome action shots are great, but the shots of the 2 players just standing around might are boring.

this inserts look super boring…i miss the days of fleer ultra’s cutting edge early/mid nineties inserts…how is it that cards that are 20 yrs old, look better than those that are brand new?
how about some foil, sizzle, acetate, or something to make them pop?

Panini needs to step there game up. There cards are very boring and uninteresting this year.

These look more like a subset than an insert. I wish Panini made better quality cards; not much difference from the base cards and these inserts. With Fleer, Upper Deck, etc. the difference between cards was notable, definitely not the case with Panini. Please bring back Topps and Upper Deck (if they survive the rest of 2012) in 2013…
