Mike Trout is Topps’ third 2012 Finest rookie

By Chris Olds | Beckett Baseball Editor

Topps announced its third Finest rookie redemption of the year on Thursday, and it’s the guy who is looking like he’ll take home the American League Rookie of the Year honors — if not more when the season ends.

It’s Mike Trout.

Collectors who found redemption No. 3 out of the five in 2012 Finest, which arrived in hobby shops last Wednesday, will receive a signed card of Trout, who is leading the AL in average at .340 and stolen bases at 38.

The first card, announced last week, was Pirates rookie Starling Marte. The second, announced Tuesday, was Chicago Cubs rookie Brett Jackson.

The company will reveal the remaining two rookies later in the month.

Wonder why the first two Finest autographs (Marte & Jackson) were on-card, but this one is a sticker.

Probably based on timing of next signing sessions vs. availability of stickers.

Mike Trout has had stuff since 2009.
Top cards are in
Bowman sterling, Bowman Chrome,
and Bowman Platinum 2010

Now they can add the magical “RC” to them though.

Lou…you are correct his rookie is in last years Finest. I have 3 different refractor version. So Chris, which will Beckett say is his actual rookie card.

Anyone who is unhappy with the Trout sticker auto they receive can send the card directly to me, and I’ll be happy to have it.

His Rookie Cards were in last year’s sets. Meanwhile, he’s still eligible for Rookie of the Year this year.

Lots o’ irony.

So the base card in the 2012 set is also a rookie? I dont see a rc logo on it anywhere? Topps is a joke trying to squeeze the last buck out of the few that collect sports cards anymore.

This may be a rookie redemption card. BUT, if you look at the card. There is no RC printed on it anywhere. So, how is it a real rookie card?

It’s a redemption of a rookie … not a rookie card. (And it wouldn’t be an RC, anyway, regardless of the logo.)

Why does he look so scared?
