Panini America‘s plans for its wrapper redemption program for this year’s National Sports Collectors Convention have not yet been fully revealed with the start of the event just 10 days away.
What’s known so far? The Texas-based company is bringing printing plates and cracked ice to the show as part of its show at the show in Baltimore Aug. 1-5.
While the company is promising more info later today, its first offering will be printing plates from various box designs from its products this year. These items will be found via instant-win redemption cards in the bonus packs opened at the show. (Collectors who open a certain number of standard Panini packs will receive a show pack in return, which will have exclusive show-only cards along with other bonuses.)
Secondly, Panini’s show packs will include a set of cards using its “cracked ice” design, which is a reflective foil board with a broken, irregular surface. At least 16 cards made for the event will be found with this look in the NSCC packs. These cards were tough pulls during the company’s Father’s Day promotion so they might be tough here, too. These cards will feature stars from the NBA, NHL, NFL and MLBPA — the company’s four major licenses.
The show’s local ties will be seen in the Team Colors cards found in NSCC packs. This set will showcase stars for the Redskins, Ravens, Orioles, Nationals and Capitals and a few prospects for those teams, too. Among the notables will be Alexander Ovechkin, Cal Ripken Jr., Robert Griffin III and Stephen Strasburg. Interestingly, no NBA players are among the cards shown in advance.
Lastly, the company teased — but did not show — the fact that it will have a Bryce Harper card among the other inserts to be found on its NSCC packs.
