First look: 2012 Topps Prime

As usual, early fall will be a prime time for football fans. But wait, there’s a Topps product twist.
The company announced today that its star-centric brand, 2012 Topps Prime will hit hobby shops on Oct. 1 — fully loaded with a roster of Relics, autographs and rarity variations. Here’s the skinny …
Product formula
- 10 packs per box
- Six boxes per “packer carton”
- 2 packer cartons per case
Four-hit box (packer carton) promises
- One Autograph Relic
- One Autograph
- Two Relics
- Two inserts
- 60 Copper parallels
One-per-box Autograph Relic cards come in four different rookie-specific variations, each limited in number and materials.
- Prime I: Book cards featuring rookie autographs with six Relic pieces (gloves, wristbands, footballs, patches, home jerseys, away jerseys); numbered to 10
- Prime II: Book cards featuring rookie autographs with five Relics (no patches); numbered to 15
- Prime III: Book cards featuring rookie autographs with three Relics (footballs, gloves and patches); numbered to 5
- Prime IV: Cards featuring rookie autographs and patch swatches (numbered to 15)
Prime V Autographed Relics are comprised of 50 different cards with rookie or veteran autographs and four pieces of memorabilia. These come in the following new rookie parallels
- Copper (numbered to 50)
- Gold (numbered to 25)
- Silver Rainbow (numbered to 15)
- Copper Rainbow (numbered to 10)
- Gold Rainbow (1/1)
These parallels also make appearances in the one-per-box autographed Rookie Card promise. Each comes numbered with increasing difficulty:
- Copper (numbered to 99)
- Gold (numbered to 75)
- Silver Rainbow (numbered to 50)
- Copper Rainbow (numbered to 25)
- Gold Rainbow (1/1)
Other standout features from 2012 Topps Prime include the specially-dedicated Quarterback Autograph Continuity subset (on-card autos from Andrew Luck and Robert Griffin III), multi-Relic cards (quad, triple and dual), and all new inserts Primetimers and Primed Rookies. With the exception of the new inserts, all of these come in Copper, Silver Rainbow, and Gold Rainbow variations.
Prime’s base set is comprised of 100 veterans and 50 top rookies, all accompanied by the aforementioned parallels.
