Your Turn: How much might Bryce Harper’s SuperFractor sell for?

By Chris Olds | Beckett Baseball Editor

The Bryce Harper SuperFractor from 2011 Bowman Chrome has been found, and it was quietly examined and slabbed a 9.5 Gem Mint specimen by Beckett Grading Services before it arrived on the auction block with a $24,999 Buy It Now pricetag on eBay.

Or, of course, you could make an offer.

Now, unless you’ve lived under a rock the last couple of years, you should know the kind of money that SuperFractors of top prospects have been commanding. If not, let’s just say it’s been enough that mainstream media outlets such as Yahoo! Sports are watching cards just like this one when they merely arrive on eBay — not when (or if) they sell. On Wednesday evening, via Twitter, they asked me my take on the card’s asking price, which is in their story.

Now, though, we want to know what you think the Harper should sell for. Take the poll or leave a comment below. (Need a complete Harper checklist or an OPG? Click here.)

Whatever someone pays for it will be about 30 times what they sell it for in 10 years…unless he’s one of the few number one picks that becomes a HOF level star. Prince Fielder’s autographed Superfractor rookie just sold for 2500 dollars. I doubt anyone will pay 25,000 for the Harper but even if someone shells out 5,000 it’s quite a gamble when a star like Fielder only brings 2500 (for the autographed version nonetheless).

Bryce Harper is the current Strasburg of 2010. The hype is unbelievable and it grows each day. We all remember the Strasburg superfractor selling for $16,000 at the original auction and I believe that because the Harper superfractor has been sought after and anticipated for so long, I am thinking that it will sell for around $20,000! Is the gamble really worth it though? well ask yourself this. Do stars like Miguel Cabrera, Prince Fielder, and other superstars have a rookie superfractor that sold for even close to that amount? No.

Bryce Harper = Greg Jeffries

Gregg Jeffries NEVER had the skill, press hype, collector interest and over-all talent that Bryce Harper has. It is now May 8th and I have been watching Harper’s MLB play over the last week. To compare him to Jeffries and Gordon proves that few of you have the skill to tell a true a player from a Beckett price point. He may not hit 500 homeruns, but I predict he’ll break Rose’s hit record and he’s damn exciting to watch.

AND HE’S ONLY NINETEEN! YOU GUYS WERE DELIVERING PIZZA AT THAT AGE!
