Topps teases Gold Rush Golden Tickets

By Chris Olds | Beckett Baseball Editor

Topps continued its week of 2012 baseball set teases on Wednesday as it showed the world what its Golden Tickets will look like when collectors start ripping into the flagship product beginning next week.

Ten of the tickets will be placed into hobby boxes — each good for a gold-infused MLB ball signed by Hank Aaron, Willie Mays and Ken Griffey Jr.

Yes, all three legends will sign each ball.

The promotion was previously announced along with the Gold Rush, but quantities were not revealed.

Topps did not disclose its plans — if any — for Golden Tickets in retail products.

Will these be put in to hobby boxes only, or will they be in Jumbo boxes too?

Topps said hobby boxes, not HTA … could just be one, could be both.

Hey Olds what do they mean by gold-infused MLB ball? Is it a gold colored baseball with black ink or gold seams on the ball or is it signed in gold pen or what..?

Will we get a tour of the Topps plant with Mr. Wonka?

I hope they put it in retail. I often can search for inserts like jersey and autograph at the local Target or Walmart in Topps packs. If they make white wrappers, it would be easier to spot. Can’t wait!

The baseballs have real gold mixed into the coloring applied to them. I think there were MLB HR derby balls with real gold last year. Were not cheap.

Roger, shame on you for pack searching! You’re the reason I don’t buy retail!

“This email is to inform you that the Topps Company is currently beyond the 15 week processing time allocated for the following redemption ball”

LOL…Can’t wait for this. :)

So ten balls to be won out of how many million packs?
And I can see someone eventually getting one years after the redemption period
has passed.

I am guessing that they will be a box topper. As they are 5 to 6 inches long. As I was lucky enough to get one in my dealer kit.

We were lucky enough to get one of the Golden Tickets. Northwest Sportscards will be giving it away to a lucky customer. We’re having a Gold Rush Party with FREE PIZZA, TRIVIA, and GREAT PRIZES including a Ken Griffey Jr Signed Baseball, and some Vintage Hank Aaron and Willie Mays cards. The event will be Wednesday Evening, Feb 1st, at 7pm to get the GOLD RUSH promotion kicked off in the right direction!
