I remember those days, In the beginning when the issues were really thin, almost like a Sports Illustrated. Also, they were not printed to perfection yet, like todays Beckett Monthly! I must say I sincerely love my Becket Sports Monthly today w/all my heart! It is the fix I need. I get excited just too see who is gonna be on This Month's cover, to what cards make The Hotlist, The articles on the aspects of the hobby, like the cards, players and the big pulls from the readers, its truly awesome. Oh! The New Card Releases and Rankings and most importantly, The Price Guides!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ah memories, thanks for sharing. In my opinion this issue would have been a better reprinted issue as it has Mantle and Ripken on the cover as well as the cards on top. Very colorful as well. I understand though that #1 issue has more significant, but a fella can dream can't he?

The best thing about that cover is the inclusion of Kent Hrbek's Donruss rookie in the top middle. Is that the only time Herbie graced the cover?

The first issue sells well. Other earlier ones do OK but not as well as No. 1. Really just depends on whether you have one available at the time someone needs it.

I prefer some of the player photo covers from 1985-1989 -- a lot of memorable ones.

I wonder what the market is on the old price guides.
I have first issues of Baseball (+the later reprint) and football, hockey, basketball.
I was thinking of framing them up at one time, but was quoted $300 to do it.

I paid a stupid amount for the first Beckett because a friend asked me to pick it up
for him at the 92 national show. He did not pay, so needless to say we are not
friends today.

"How about Cal Ripken Jr., who was hot enough to grace the cover of the issue alongside Mantle? How’d he fare? A $5.50 card in the $27 1982 Topps set. (Today, he’s a $40 in an $80.)"

Donruss or Topps?
