Former IRL IndyCar champion and two-time Indianapolis 500 winner Dan Wheldon died in a crash at the IndyCar season finale in Las Vegas on Sunday. He was 33.
Wheldon, who made his debut in 2002, won 16 races during his career and the 2005 series title. The accident happened just 11 laps into the event, which was called off after the multi-car wreck.
He appears on just 15 items in the Beckett.com database — just seven of those cards. His lone widely issued trading cards came in the 2007 Rittenhouse IRL set, which included his Rookie Card (above) and his only certified autograph card.

Topps formally unveiled the latest chapter in its annual throwback staple, Topps Heritage, on Friday, assuring us all that when the calendar moves forward to 2012 the throwback calendar will, too.
Just like in 1962, replacing the wood-bordered cards will be a colorful multi-image release with bright fronts, bright cardboard stock and even more colorful card backs than those found on the ’62 design.
Each 24-pack hobby box of Heritage will include one autograph or Relic card when it arrives on March 14.

While Matt Moore was a previously announced addition, Topps confirmed on Tuesday that he’s not the only big-name rookie who will appear on autographed cards in the forthcoming 2011 Bowman Chrome baseball card set.
Also inked up and ready to be found are American League Rookie of the Year candidates Dustin Ackley of the Seattle Mariners and Eric Hosmer of the Kansas City Royals.
Their autographs will be one of several found inside boxes of Bowman Chrome when it arrives next week with yet another Chrome auto of a highly touted prospect you might have heard of inside them, too, Bryce Harper.
