Was it also intentional on Topps’ part to go from naming the actual type of refractor on the card backs a few years ago, to simply labeling them all as ‘refractor’ in recent years? I too believe it’s a simple case of laziness.

That’s not lazy. It’s intentional. It saves money having to print a second black plate for every card in the product. Refractors refract on the fronts — that’s how you can tell what they are.

Too bad Topps got too lazy to mark refractors, almost impossible to tell them from non-refractors.

chromies unite! i also really like the 2001 throwback inserts. it will be nice to own a 2001 chrome pujols, even without the auto and being a reprint, and kudos to topps for including ichiro. topps doesn’t make enouph ichiro cards, especially autos! so listen up, topps! i am also glad i was able to purchase a live matt moore auto from the set and not a redemption card! does anyone else notice that unlike just about every other version of a players bowman chrome, matt moore’s cards from both 2009 and 2011 call the card his “1st bowman chrome? i know, i have far too much time on my hands to care or even notice this! i’ll probably hold off on the entire base set, but definately plan on ebuyin’ the prospect set and at least one of the insert sets. overall a very nice chrome set this year! and quit dingin’ them cards, olds! j.k., and keep up the good work!
